Ati-Atihan, observed in honor of the Child Jesus. Ati-
atihan means ‘making like Atis,’ that is, pretending to
be like the aboriginal natives that once inhabited
Aklan. This involves smearing oneself with soot to
darken the skin and dressing up in tribal finery.

The Sinulog Festival is a lively
celebration that lasts for 9 days
in Cebu! Apart from the religious
aspect of this festival, it is also well-
known for its lively street parties and
parades. If you find yourself
attending the Sinulog Festival, "Pit
Señor!" is a phrase you will hear a
lot.

4th weekend of January

What is it?
The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural
festival in Iloilo City, Philippines right after the
Sinulog in Cebu and the Ati-Atihan Festival in
Kalibo, Aklan.

Merrymaking

Dinagyang Festival is one of the biggest and world-


class festivals in the Philippines. It traces the history
of devotion to the Holy Child Jesus popularly known
to Filipino devotees as Sr. Sto. Nino and
appreciating the natives called Ati.

What is it?
The term “Panagbenga” comes from a
Kankanaey term meaning “season of
blooming”. This festival reflects the history,
traditions and values of Baguio and the
Cordilleras. It lasts over a month long and
flourishes through community spirit
involvement.
