The mission is to Provide storage facility for farmers of the Eastern and Volta Region in Ghana starting

with 2 districts.

Provide cold room storage for perishable goods especially plantain, cassava and tomatoes in the eastern
and volta region of Ghana. One storage facility would be station in Keta in the Volta Region, Ghana’s hub
for tomato production and the other facility at Anumapapam, a town in the eastern region of Ghana.
Our organisation would sought out farmers associations and discuss the terms and conditions. Farmers
can call us anytime they have abundant harvest either to pickup or they bring to our facility. Produce
would be packed into crates, marked and taken into cold room. We will help farmers fill a digital form
which will give details of what they brought, when they brought it and the length it will be stored.

My intervention would help Farmers maintain consistent prices for their produce throughout the
months, reduce post harvest loss and stabilize prices of such crops to consumers throughout the year.

The main reason people in these areas are not able to have access to such facility is due to its high cost
of purchasing and maintaining. Cold room storage facility is expensive to build or import and uses high
voltage to power hence too costly for individual farmers.

I would Like funding to acquire a storage facilities which will be stationed in the middle of these districts
and connect with farmers to store some of their produce in the facility to avoid over supply, therefore
they will be able to sell the stored crops during the months they are planting or awaiting rains. This
storage facilities will connect to factories and companies that buy such crops in bulk to ease the burden
of finding buyers on farmers. Farmers will be charged an initial moderate fee for storage according to
space, this cost however will be placed on buyers or shared between farmers and buyers . Group of
farmers with smaller produce can come together to pay for the space. The money will be used to pay for
electricity and maintenance.

A survey to find out if farmers are willing to pay a fee to store their perishable crops to attract good
prices during planting season would be a feasible and most needed pilot survey.

With a storage facility we could save up to 80% of post harvest loss in the stated communities and
double profits by 50% for each farmer. Consumers can also expect consistent prices throughout the
year.

A pilot survey would be conducted in two different regions. Keta in the volta region and Ayensuano
district in the eastern region. The three important expenditure would be transportation,
accommodation and feeding.

The vision is to serve as a storage hub for the selected crops and link farmers to bulk buyer at good
prices. The long term goal is let farmers make enough money from their produce without having to sell
at cheaper prices afraid it will perish

Anumapapam the potential venue for the storage facility for Plantain and Cassava, is a town I
have personally been to. The nearby villages has small scale farmers who come to the big
market on Tuesday to sell their produce. Its location is nearer to the capital of eastern Region,,
have access to electricity and newly constructed road.

Keta is Ghana’s hub for tomatoes. On my visit to Keta and its nearby villages, I saw farmers
selling their tomatoes very cheap at the roadside. Upon my investigation, I discovered it was a
peak season and many farms produces more than the people need and have to sell cheaper to
tourist or loose their produce.
