○ From micro to macro (lower redundancy to higher redundancy)

Argument
There are many factors to be considered when creating a functioning communication
network. For example, a higher degree of redundancy is better as it means that there
higher chance for the message to be transmitted even if the network is damaged. Wi
being said, where the redundancy is positioned in the network is also important. This
because, a higher degree of redundancy is more desirable at the outer edge of the
distributed networks than in the interior. Therefore, in order to ensure better system
performance, we need to plan the redundancy level of a network well.

Redundancy --> want to prevent a single point of failure

Nuclear weapons started as a military thing before it moved on to civilian usage

Architecture of the internet rn --> started with this military

network, the architecture is designed that the premise of the
threat comes from the outside

The state of the network is to preserve democracy

The reasons they had in mind when creating the internet^^ was
not what we as users think it is (the "Evil" person is coming form
the outside and destroying the network --> that's why there is a
need for redundancy)

There is a way/ protocols/ rules to send the messages in the

system

Impt to take note of the way they are designed, there are
different solutions

They worked for the American military

If you think of the internet, it is a network of network and

ultimately it has a global reach --> protocols are paramount as
you need to make sure that the different networks can talk to
each other

Difference between the net and the web

- Internet will be the structure (eg the library)
- World wide web is an application of the internet (eg the
books in the library) --> it is about orgnaising content

Point:
We cannot keep it centralised/ have a centralised network
cause if theres a nuclear war the soviet will aim for the core and
will destroy everything

Military strategic concerns to preserve demogracy, we shouldn’t

keep it centralise, the rendunency will allow them to in a way
restart/ build from the other "parts" since it is not centralised
When people think about external threats they don’t really think about
internal threats (eg spam --> brings about abuse and threats)

Things nowadays are invented in a way that allows for spam even with filters
and all (used to be 80-90% spam now its just 1/3)

No one is going to reinvent the architecture of the internet cause it is so

widespread

Design is to protect you from external attack, redundancy (no one realised
there will be threats from the users --> spam)

Point 2: Designed to be resilient from external attacks but it ends up being

vulnerable to internal attack
will destroy everything

Military strategic concerns to preserve demogracy, we shouldn’t

keep it centralise, the rendunency will allow them to in a way
restart/ build from the other "parts" since it is not centralised

(efficiency is not the qn here, its more about preventing the

enemies from infiltrating)
If people who designed the itnernet had different concerns,
then it couldve addressed smth else and be different
