TITLE: “Lamenting, Learning, and Leaning on the Lord during the Lenten

Season”
TEXT: MATTHEW 4:1-2

Introduction:
The Lenten season Is a period of forty days before Easter in the Christian calendar, starting on
Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday. It is a time of spiritual preparation for the
celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. During this season, Christians
are called to focus on repentance, self-examination, and renewal in their relationship with God. It
is a time to reflect on our sins, confess them to God, and seek His forgiveness and mercy. Lent is
also a time for fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, as we seek to draw closer to God and live out our
faith in practical ways.

I. Lamenting our Sins

Psalm 51:3 – “For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.”

II. Learning from God’s Word

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

III. Leaning on the Lord

Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up
with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Conclusion:
As we journey through the Lenten season, let us remember to lament our sins, learn from God’s
Word, and lean on the Lord for strength and guidance.
