Chapter 1
Problem and its Background
Introduction
On social media, There are many Platforms on social media like
facebook and on Facebook is one of the most popular social networks available
to your business. Many people use these platforms to connect with family,
friends, and brands. Facebook offers an excellent opportunity to connect with
your audience. You can share: Status updates Photos Videos Links and on
Youtube is an American online video-sharing and social media platform
headquartered in San Bruno, California. It was launched on Steve Chen , Chad
Hurley, and Jawed Karim (2005) It is owned by Google, and is the second most
visited website, after Google Search. and etc. and Social media refers to the
means of interaction among the respondents which they create, share, and
exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. In other
words, social media Matthew Jones is an electronic form of communication and
information-sharing where users can create and distribute unique content or
view the content of others. Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the
attention and interest of an audience or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an
idea or a task but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have
developed over thousands of years specifically to keep an audience's attention.
Although people's attention is held by different things because individuals have
different preferences, and forms Arthur Schwartz (2005) Stated that
Entertainment are recognizable and familiar. Storytelling, music, drama,
dance, and different kinds of performance exist in all cultures and were
supported in royal courts and developed into sophisticated forms, over time
becoming available to all citizens. Some entertainment, such as public
executions, are now illegal in most countries. Activities such as fencing or
archery, once used in hunting or war, have become spectator sports. In the
same way, other activities, such as cooking, have developed into performances
among professionals, staged as global competitions and then broadcast for
entertainment. What is entertainment for one group or individual may be
regarded as work or an act of cruelty by another. And The familiar forms of
entertainment have the capacity to cross over different media and have
demonstrated a seemingly unlimited potential for creative remix. This has
ensured the continuity and longevity of many themes, images, and structures.
process has been accelerated in modern times by an entertainment industry
that records and sells entertainment products. Entertainment evolves and can
be adapted to suit any scale, ranging from an individual who chooses private
entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products; to a
banquet adapted for two; to any size or type of party, with appropriate music
and dance; to performances intended for thousands and even for a global
audience.
Education On education many education Platforms and education are
commonly divided into formal and Formal education occurs in a structured
environment whose explicit purpose is teaching students. Usually, formal
education takes place in a school environment with classrooms of multiple
students learning together with a trained, certified teacher of the subject It can
be subdivided into various categories or levels. and Cohen J ( 2006 ) Stated
that The International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) was
created by UNESCO as a statistical base to compare education systems In
1997, it defined seven levels of education and 25 fields, though the fields were
later separated to form a different project. The current version of ISCED 2011
has nine rather than seven levels, created by dividing the tertiary pre-doctorate
level into three levels. Regardless of setting, educational methods include
teaching, training, storytelling, discussion, and directed research. Education
can be thought of as the transmission of the values and accumulated
knowledge of a society. In this sense, it is equivalent to what social scientists
term socialization or enculturation. Among the respondents and Education is
designed to guide them in learning a culture, molding their behavior in the
ways of adulthood, and directing them toward their eventual role in society. In
the most primitive cultures, there is often little formal learning. Cohen J
( 2006 ) Stated that Education is a purposeful activity directed at achieving
certain aims, such as transmitting knowledge or fostering skills and character
traits. These aims may include the development of understanding, rationality,
kindness, and honesty. Various researchers emphasize the role of critical
thinking in order to distinguish education from indoctrination. Some theorists
require that education results in an improvement of the student while others
prefer a value-neutral definition of the term. In a slightly different sense,
education may also refer, not to the process, but to the product of this process:
the mental states and dispositions possessed by educated people. This research
aims to address that they need a knowledge about the engagement of social
media usage. They can also teach other students about how to deal the
engagement that lead to their incompetent or misinformed. These skills will
help prepare them for adulthood and future careers that involve technology.
This research is dedicated to the senior high school students in ANTIONIO A.
MACEDA INTEGRATED SCHOOL that over used of Social Media can lead to
misinformation and incompetent if they cannot manage the engagement.

Significance of the study
This study seeks to evaluate social media among Senior high school students.
The following individuals are among the people who will benefit from the
study .
Students : the students This study will benefit them by improving their
performance and knowledge because of YouTube flexibility, such as improved
listening comprehension and students enjoy watching YouTube videos because
they can learn difficult ideas and also hone their punctuation and listening
skills, which will lead to their success. It can also benefits the students skill at
using social media platform.
Teachers: This study will benefit the instructor, who is unfamiliar with digital
media by providing an effective software which is youtube and facebook to help
them teach more easily and effectively with students. It also benefits the
instructor in YouTube's features like giving them a video lesson that you could
get in YouTube. And also in Facebook' features like text channels to organize
things like lessons, homework, or study groups.
Future researchers: This study will help student researchers to better
understand the impact and benefits of social media. They may use it as future
researchers to identify the gap to develop more analysts.
Scope and Delimitation
The senior high school of ANTONIO A. MACEDA INTEGRATED SCHOOL
will be the main subject of this research. The researchers will conduct a survey
by questionnaires to 50 of SHS students of ANTONIO A. MACEDA

Conceptual Framework, as shown in the diagram above. To collect data, the
researchers used an online survey. A structured questionnaire that the target
audience completes over the internet, usually in the form of a fill-in form, is
known as an online survey. Researchers can learn who the users are, what
they want to accomplish, and what information they require by conducting an
online survey. As an online survey tool, First, the researchers did was they

Chapter 1
Problem and its Background
Introduction
There are numerous platforms accessible for your business on social
media, including Facebook, which is one of the most well-known social
networks. These platforms are widely used by users to communicate with
brands, family, and friends. An wonderful opportunity to interact with your
audience is provided by Facebook. On YouTube, an American online video-
sharing and social media platform with its corporate headquarters in San
Bruno, California, you can share: Status updates, photos, videos, links, and
more.
It was founded by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim in 2005, and is
now owned by Google. After Google Search, it receives the second-highest
volume of traffic. Social media is the term for the means of communication
used by respondents to build, share, and exchange knowledge and ideas in
online communities and networks. To put it another way, social media
Matthew Jones is a platform for electronic communication and information
sharing where users can publish their own original material or watch that of
others. A sort of action known as entertainment keeps a crowd’s interest or
provides pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but one of the events
or actions is more likely.
All cultures have storytelling, music, drama, dance, and other forms of
performance. These art forms were encouraged in royal courts, evolved into
complex forms, and eventually became accessible to all citizens. Public
executions are one form of entertainment that is now prohibited in the majority
of nations. Previously utilized in battle or hunting, sports like fencing and
archery are now spectator events. Other pursuits, like cooking, have also
evolved into professional performances that have been organized as
international competitions and then broadcast for entertainment. What one
group or person may view as fun may be viewed by another as labor or a cruel
deed. The well-known entertainment genres are able to transcend media and
have shown an apparently limitless capacity for inventive remix. As a result,
many motifs, images, and structures have been preserved over time. A modern
entertainment sector that produces and sells entertainment goods has
hastened the process. A meal tailored for two, a party of any size or style with
the right music and dancing, performances designed for thousands of people,
or even a global audience are all examples of how entertainment evolves and
can be tailored to suit any scale.
Formal education takes place in a structured environment with the express
goal of teaching students. Education on many education platforms is divided
into formal education. Formal education typically occurs in a school setting,
where groups of students study together under the guidance of qualified
teachers. It can be divided into a variety of categories or levels. UNESCO
developed the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) in
1997 as a statistical foundation for comparing educational systems. At the
time, it defined 25 fields and seven levels of education, though the fields were
later divided into separate projects. Because the tertiary pre-doctorate level was
divided into three levels, the current version of ISCED 2011 contains nine
levels rather than seven. Teaching, training, storytelling, conversation, and
focused study are all examples of educational methods, regardless of the
environment. Education can be seen as the dissemination of a society’s values
and collective wisdom. It is comparable to what social scientists refer to as
socialization or enculturation in this regard. Education is intended to help the
respondents acquire a culture, shape their conduct into that of adults, and
point them in the direction of their ultimate social position. The most archaic
cultures frequently have little formal education. According to Cohen J. (2006),
education is a purposeful activity with specific goals in mind, such as
imparting knowledge or developing skills and character traits. These objectives
might include the growth of comprehension, reason, kindness, and honesty.
For the purpose of separating education from indoctrination, numerous studies
emphasize the importance of critical thinking.
While some theorists insist that education must lead to a student’s
improvement, others favor a definition of the term that is value-neutral. In a
slightly different sense, education can also refer to the mental states and
dispositions that educated people possess, rather than the practice itself. This
study tries to address the issue of their desire for information regarding social
media activity. They can also instruct other students on how to handle
situations that made them inept or ignorant.
This study tries to address the issue of their desire for information regarding
social media activity. They can also instruct other students on how to handle
situations that made them inept or ignorant. These abilities will help students
get ready for adulthood and potential tech-related employment. This study is
intended to enlighten senior high school students at ANTIONIO A. MACEDA
INTEGRATED SCHOOL about how excessive usage of social media can result
in inaccurate information and incompetence if users cannot control activity.
Chapter 2
Review of Related Literature
Social media is started when people start to communicate. Social
means human society, as interference of people & the groups and word media
is the medium of expressions. Most of the forms of social media are not digital.
It generates a large number of innovations and Social Media is one of the
biggest inventions of technology, which is now most popular and widely used.
We define Social Media as “technologies that made social communication easy
and enable discussions among its participants. While in our study, the word
social media means a web-Based mobile application that allows people or
companies to make, interact with, and share new user! Generated or current
material, in digital environment. Students are consumers and producers of
media. He invention of smart phone has increase the usage of social media. It
enable users to access multiple social networking sites through just few clicks
these social media has a great impact on students on which large number of
researches has been conducted and each research shows unique results. Some
studies prove that social media negatively affect the performance of students
while according to some researches it improves the learning of its users and
improve their communications skills. His chapter discussed several words
about various learning preferences both local and foreign. Presented also were
some studies done discussing the impacts of social media to students'
academic performance and other issues.
Positive effects of social media on students’ academic life
Students’ academic life has moved to a different dimension since the
introduction of these social media networks and several studies have affirmed
that social media plays an important role on students in higher education
including the study conducted by Wheeler, Yeomans and Wheeler,(2008);
Rifkin, Longenecker, Leach and Ortica,(2009). In their study, they recognized
four (4) major advantages of social media usage by students in higher
education which included; enhancing relationship, improving learning
motivation, offering personalized course material, and developing collaborative
abilities. Indeed, social media has contributed greatly to facilitating learning in
the 21st century. It is shown that a greater percentage of students including
those at the PhD level commonly use social media to ameliorate their studies
(Khan, 2010). The answers to the causes of flexible studies today across the
globe might not be far-fetched from the great contribution that social media
platforms are providing when used judiciously. Even though, there have been
other school of thought that states that social media is a nuisance to students’
academic life such as kuppuswamy and Shankar (2010), who argued in their
study that social networks distracts the attention and concentration of the
students toward learning and converts it towards non educational activities
such as useless and unnecessary chatting, there have been several studies
conducted afterwards whose findings are contrary to this claim. For instance,
the study conducted by Jain, Verma, Verma and Tiwari (2012),
titled “the impact of social networking in promoting education’’ revealed
that students benefit from chatting with other students, teachers and external
sources to acquire knowledge. Also, Yunus and Salehi (2012),argued in the
same direction that students gained more vocabulary, improved their writing
skills and reduced their spelling mistakes through social media usage. In fact
as an educational tool, social media enriches learning by giving both students
and teachers the opportunity to connecting new and very exciting ways thereby
encouraging flexible mode of learning. It is stated that flexible learning expands
the choice on what, when and how people learn. It supports different styles of
learning including E-learning which is highly patronized across the globe
(Pappas,2013). Other scholars; O’Keeffe and Clake
-person (2011), in their study also revealed that social media benefits students
by connecting them Toone another on assignments and class projects. It is
further buttressed in the study of Arguer and Esteban (2013) and Selwyn
(2007) whose conclusions were that social media undoubtedly generate new
opportunities to engage students in higher education as they are remarkably
effective at connecting people and facilitating the exchange of information. It is
clear and indisputable from these studies that social media usage in the
educational sector cannot be underestimate since it introduction.
Negative effects of social media on students’ academic life
Davies and Cranston (2008), enumerated some of the risks associated
with social media which included criminal activities such as identity theft and
fake contacts which is prevalent today, sexual abuse or harassment and
unsuitable advertising. On the same subject O’Keeffe and Clake
-Pearson(2011), also mentioned cyberbullying, online harassment, sexting,
depression, and privacy concerns as some of the challenges associated with
social networking.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
A discussion of the study's methodology may be found in this chapter. It describes
and explains the research design, respondents of the study, sampling techniques, research
instruments, data gathering procedure, statistical treatment, and ethical considerations.
Research Design
The descriptive method of investigation was used in this study. This design aims to
gather data about the existing condition. Siedlecki (2020) defined descriptive design as a method
of describing individuals, events and conditions by studying them. In this design, researchers
look at the characteristics of a population; identify the influence that exist within a unit or
organization. This design is ideal to examine as is intended at acquiring essential data to identify
the influence of social media as experienced by senior high school students.
A quantitative research strategy was also applied. Babbie and Mujis (2020)
“quantitative methods emphasize objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or
numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, or manipulating
pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques.” Quantitative research focuses on
gathering numerical data and generalizing it across groups of people or explaining a particular
phenomenon. This approach is appropriate since it makes use of quantitative techniques such as
print-out questionnaires and others to identify the influence of social media by senior high school
students based on their experience.
Respondents of the Study
The study's target audience attended Antonio A. Maceda Integrated High School.
Because of its effectiveness and accessibility compared to other schools, this school was chosen.
The senior high school in Antonio A. Maceda Integrated High School has four academic strands
which are Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Information and Technologies
Communication (ICT), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), General Academics
Strand (GAS) (GAS). There are four (4) sections in grade twelve (12).
Sampling Techniques
Quota sampling was used to calculate exact number of samples needed per section.
Only ten (10) samples per section were picked as respondents and these respondents were picked
using random method where students available can answer the survey questionnaire. There were
only four (4) sections in grade 12 senior high school. The researchers chose this sample group to
represent the entire population so that they can get the desired result. About forty (40) students
were able to respond to the questionnaire in total.
Research Instrument
A print-out survey questionnaire is used as a tool to gather data from the respondents,
was sent to the respondents and the responses where manual recorded in a spreadsheet. The
questionnaire's questions are intended to gauge which age, sex, and academic stream of senior
high school students are most impacted by social media. It will also measure what is the assessed
level of influence for this problem.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers request permission to class advisers for their students to answer the
survey form and explain the goal of research. Once the advisers gave the permission, the
hardcopy of the survey questionnaire was handed out to targeted respondents. Participants were
asked to respond to a questionnaire about their demographic information, such as age, gender,
and strand before completing the interview.
The respondents were given plenty of time to respond to the questionnaire in detail.
The respondent's participation was entirely voluntary and unremunerated. There were forty
students who were able to take part in the survey.
Statistical Treatment
For the respondents' demographic characteristics (sex range and strand), the
frequency and percentage statistics will be utilized. The term "percentage" refers to a fraction of
a "hundred," while "frequency" refers to the number of times a particular score appears in a
given set of data.
Frequency (f)
Formula: Percentage (%) = x 100
Total number of responses
The ranking method will be used to determine the degree of influence that social
media has on senior high school students, primarily those with experience, and this issue. When
data are sorted, the transformation of numerical or ordinal values into their rank is referred to as
"ranking" in statistics.
