Chiller Roundtable Q&A for February 2012

Q1: Do you need all 16 points to do a competitor’s performance, or can you use the
IPLV/NPLV data that was supplied by the competition?

A1: .There are competitive templates that can be used, however, using customer supplied job
specific chiller selection data will provide the most accurate analysis. Most engineering firms
are willing to request this data from all vendors. Be sure to adhere to all legal and ethical
policies with respect to competitive feedback.

Q2: When calculating SPLV, is that for chiller only or are the pumps energy included?

A2: Any PLV (SPLV, IPLV, NPLV) value pertains to chiller KW/Ton, CSO does provide
additional reports if pump/tower energy is required.

Chiller Best Practice Q&A for February 2012

Q1: Is it true that McQuay offered a magnetic bearing chiller for less than our 30XW?

A1: Yes, McQuay was offering a dual compressor magnetic bearing chiller on bid day for less
than our pricing on the 30XW. It seems they were being helped by a rebate they were
expecting to get from the power company BG&E, and trying to buy out the project. With help
from pricing we were able to get to the same ballpark as the magnetic bearing chiller, and we
ended up winning the job at a price slightly above McQuay’s due to being the basis of design.
