Ischemic Stroke
Occurs when the blood supply to
part of the brain is interrupted or
reduced, preventing brain tissue
from getting oxygen and
nutrients. Brain cells begin to die
in minutes. A stroke is a medical
emergency, and prompt
treatment is crucial. Early action
can reduce brain damage and
other complications.

old, is admitted to the
emergency service, with a
history of high blood pressure.
The reason for consultation is
due to right hemiparesis and
because he slurs his words
when he speaks (dysarthria).

Features:
Change in level of
consciousness or
responsiveness.
Presence or absence of
voluntary or involuntary
movements of extremities.
Stiffness or flaccidity of the neck.
Decreased ability to speak
Patients with atrial fibrillation
Sign and syntoms
F.A.S.T warning signs
F = Face Drooping – Does one side of the
face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to
smile. Is the person's smile uneven?
A = Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or
numb? Ask the person to raise both arms.
Does one arm drift downward?
S = Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred?
T = Time to call 911

Numbness or weakness of face, arm, or


leg, especially on one side of the body.
(Hemiplegia, paraesthesia)
Confusion, trouble speaking or
understanding speech (aphasia,
dysarthria).
Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
(diplopia)
Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of
balance or coordination. (ataxia, apraxia)
Severe headache with no known cause.
Vomiting

Treatment
-Aspirin 250 mg Physical Exam
-Atorvastatin 80 mg
-Tissue plasminogen activator 0,9 mg/kg
- Brain CT scan without contrast in the first
hour after medical suspicion -Right hemiparesis
- Cardiac and vital signs monitoring
- Maintain blood glucose between 140-200
mg/dl
- Keep head aligned at 30 degrees
- Maintain normothermia
- The patient should be in a calm
environment
