KEEPING A FETUS HEALTHY

1. In humans, an unborn baby that develops and grows inside the uterus
(womb) is called as a fetus.
2. During pregnancy, the fetal circulatory system works differently than after
birth.
3. The fetus is connected by the umbilical cord to the placenta, the organ that
develops and implants in the mother's uterus during pregnancy.
4. Through the blood vessels in the umbilical cord, the fetus receives all the
necessary nutrition, oxygen, and life support from the mother through the
placenta.
5. Waste products and carbon dioxide from the fetus are sent back through the
umbilical cord and placenta to the mother's circulation to be eliminated.
DIET:
Nutrients can be divided into two categories: macronutrients, and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are the nutrients your body needs in larger amounts, namely
carbohydrates, protein, and fat.
These provide your body with energy, or calories.
Micronutrients are the nutrients your body needs in smaller amounts, which
are commonly referred to as vitamins and minerals.
We need macronutrients to help with energy and we need micronutrients to
help our body be healthy and digest those macronutrients.
SMOKING CIGARETTES:
Tobacco smoke contains carbon monoxide, nicotine and tar.
Carbon monoxide - Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas which takes the place of
oxygen in the blood. This forces heart to work much harder and stops lungs from working
properly.

Nicotine - In the brain, nicotine increases the release of brain chemicals called

neurotransmitters, which regulate mood and behavior.

Tar - Tar contains most of the cancer-causing and other harmful chemicals found in tobacco
smoke.
When tobacco smoke is inhaled, the tar can form a sticky layer on the inside of the lungs.
This damages the lungs and may lead to lung cancer, emphysema, or other lung problems.
