In this document, comments regarding the bending moment and shear force at the top of the
columns and the most optimum h value is found, as well as computational analysis of h = 0, 2.5, 3, 6,
9, 12 using SPACEGASS.

The hand drawn SFD’s and BMD’s for the same h values are found in the attached PDF, accompanied
by the FBD’s of each structure, with determination of the max values of the diagrams mentioned and
reaction forces. Below, the reaction forces for the structure pertaining to h = 2.5.

Reaction Forces Left Column (A) Right Column (C)

Y reaction 34.67 kN -14.95 kN
X reaction 6.95 kN 37.33 kN

After analysis of the different h values (h = 0,2.5,3,6,9,12), it was determined that the smallest shear
force and smallest bending moment at the top of the columns was at h = 6. This is most likely due to
this shape having the most efficient loading path, as it was determined that the roof pitch was 45
degrees from the apex for h = 6. This is shown below, with the forces determined at the top of the
left and right columns for h = 6.

Left Column (A) Right Column (C)

Shear Force -0.8 kN 0.8 kN
Bending Moment 12.8 kN.m -0.8 kN.m
