NAME OF THE SUPERVISOR:

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF THE GROUP: The group has basic knowledge about the Partogram as they have learned about it
during their graduation
GENERAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the group will learn about the Partogram and will be able to apply the knowledge in clinical life or day-
to-day life.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the group will be able to:

 define the Partogram.

 enumerate the components of the Partogram.
 enlist the advantages and limitations of the Program.
 discuss the usage of the Partogram
 elaborate on the digital Partogram.
 explain the plotting of the Partogram.

signs.

It is intended to provide an accurate record of the progress in

labor so that any delay or deviation from normal may be
detected quickly and treated accordingly. However, a
Cochrane review concluded that there is insufficient
evidence to recommend partographs in standard labor
management and care.

LIMITATIONS: I

 It requires a skilled healthcare worker who can fill N

and interpret the partograph. T

 Recent studies have shown there is no evidence that

partograph use is detrimental to outcomes.
 Often paper-partograph and the equipment required
to complete it are unavailable in low resource
settings.
 Despite decades of training and investment,
implementation rates and capacity to correctly use
the partograph are very low.
 According to some recent literature, cervical
dilatation over time is a poor predictor of severe
adverse birth outcomes. This raises questions about
the validity of a partograph alert line.

pregnancy. The use of the partograph is recommended as an
important indicator for monitoring intrapartum care.
Partograph includes several labor vitals including cervix
dilatation of the mother. Plotting the cervix dilatation against
time can help predict deviation from the normal labor
progress. Various researchers have suggested using digital
partograph to overcome the limitations of paper-based
partograph. Much literature is available regarding the
feasibility of a digital partograph.

SUMMARY

During the session, we discussed the definition of the Partogram. There are various components which are needed to be filled at
the time of Partogram plotting. In addition, we learned the Partogram's usage, advantages, limitations, and contraindications. We also
learned about digital Partogram in this session.

CONCLUSION

The partograph is a time-based graphical representation of the events in the first stage of labor. The partograph is a tool for assessing and interpreting
the progress of labor. It is a tool for preventing protracted labor. Partograms are of two types: 1) Composite partograph= Has recordings of both the latent and
active phases of the first stage of labor. 2) WHO modified partograph= Has recordings of only the active phase of the first stage of labor.
