624 Homework 9 Spring 2020

Assume Vcc = 15 and Vee = -15 volts and matched 2N3904 pair) at ambient
temperature.

1. Calculate the bias currents and voltages.

2. Calculate the following three AC voltage gains for each of the following three
input conditions (9 total gains should be calculated) assuming an ideal input
voltage source:
 Output 1
 Output 2
 The differential output 𝑉 𝑉

Input 1 with input 2 grounded.

Input 2 with input 1 grounded.
(These are differential gains)
Inputs 1 and 2 together with respect to ground (common mode gain).

Don't forget that gain should include sign (relative phase) information.

Summarize your results for all 9 gains in a table.

3. What are the input impedances for these three input conditions?

4. Calculate the voltage gain for the following configuration

 A voltage source with 50Ω output impedance is coupled to the input 1
with a ‘large enough’ capacitor.
 Nothing is connected to input 2.
 The output is taken at output 2.
5. Show simulation results for problem 4. Submit your model.

Note: When performing an AC simulation, make sure you’re using an AC source. Do

this by placing a voltage source and then selecting the Advanced tab. The functions on
the left are intended for time domain (Transient Analysis) simulations, so don’t pick
them. Instead, enter a voltage (1V is easiest) in the Small signal AC analysis (AC) box
for amplitude as shown below.
