4. Description
a. History

Scissor doors were initially used in the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car
designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone. Gandini's creative thoughts and worries about
the car's limited rear visibility inspired him to design this one-of-a-kind door style. The
Lamborghini Countach, also designed by Gandini, was the first production car with these
doors, allowing the driver to lift the door and pop their head out to observe behind the
vehicle when reversing. The scissor doors were a realistic answer for this sports car's
broad chassis, which posed similar visibility concerns as the Carabo. The doors were not
only functional, but they also kept the high door sills of standard swing doors from making
leaving the automobile difficult. Following in the footsteps of the Countach were
Lamborghinis such as the Diablo, Murciélago, and the limited-edition Reventón.

Lamborghini has become synonymous with scissor doors, sometimes known as

"Lambo doors," because of Marcello Gandini's original designs and the first production
car with these doors, the Countach. From the Diablo through the Murciélago, the
Reventón, and eventually the Centenario and Aventador family, Lamborghini V12 engine
cars have continued to use this unique door form over the years. These scissor doors are
now a symbol of Lamborghini's devotion to both design and engineering excellence,
thanks to superior aerodynamics, powerful engine technology, and significant use of
carbon fiber.

For many decades, conventional vehicle doors, also known as swing doors or
hinged doors, were the most prevalent style of car door. These doors are hinged to the
body of the automobile and swing outwards or inwards to open. Because of its simplicity
and functionality, this design has been utilized in most automobiles since the early days
of the automobile and has remained the norm for many years.

The early vehicles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century featured
doors that extended outwards, which was easy for getting in and out of the car but also
made parking in small areas difficult. To address this, automakers began experimenting

with doors that opened inwards, although these frequently required more room and
intricate systems.

Technological advancements have enabled more compact and efficient door

designs over time. The suicide door, for example, which opened from the back hinge, was
developed in the 1920s and was used on numerous automobiles until the 1950s. In recent
years, there has been a trend toward the usage of sliding doors, notably on minivans and
SUVs, which provide simpler access to the vehicle's interior, particularly in confined
places. Despite the emergence of innovative door designs, the conventional vehicle door
has remained a staple in the automotive industry and is still used in most automobiles
today.

b. Mechanism

Lamborghini automobiles are distinguished by scissor doors, commonly known as

Lambo Doors. The term comes from the scissor-like motion of these doors, which open
vertically and pivot at the front of the door, behind the fender, rather than downward
like typical automobile doors.

A scissor door, like the one found on the Lamborghini Aventador, has a pivot point at
the top of the door frame that allows the door to swing upward and forward. Hinges
attach the door to the pivot point and allow it to revolve. An electric or hydraulic
actuator, which is normally operated by an internal switch or a remote key fob, provides
the required force to raise and lower the door. When a door is closed, a latch
mechanism is frequently used to keep it in place and ensure that it remains firmly
closed. This device is activated when the door is closed and deactivated when the door
is opened.

Scissor doors are popular on sports vehicles such as the Lamborghini Aventador
because they not only offer a distinctive and visually appealing design to the vehicle but
also make it simpler to access and depart the vehicle, especially in tight situations with
little clearance.

Crank-Slider: A Crank and Slider machine turns rotational motion into linear
motion (or vice versa). It is made up of a crank (a rotating arm) and a slider (a
reciprocating component that travels in a straight line).

The slider is attached to one end of a rod known as the connecting rod, which is linked
to the crank at the other end. The connecting rod pushes and pulls the slider in a
straight line as the crank revolves.

Crank and slider mechanisms are found in a wide range of common applications,
including engines, pumps, and conveyor systems. They may also be found in
mechanical toys like jack-in-the-boxes and instruments like hand-operated drills.

Crank and slider mechanisms may also be used to construct and evaluate mechanical
systems such as four-bar linkage systems, which are used to transmit motion between
rotating shafts. Crank and slider mechanisms can increase the efficiency and
performance of these systems while also making them easier to construct.
