Instructions to Users
• During running, the total capacity of Indoor Units in a system shall not exceed the total capacity of the
Outdoor Units; otherwise, the cooling (or heating) output of the system will be relatively lower.
• Connect separate MCB/SFU to each Outdoor Unit.

• Connect a circuit breaker to each Indoor Unit according to the capacity of each unit and a master circuit
breaker for all Indoor Units together. Each circuit breaker is used for isolation as well as short circuit/
overload protection of its IDU. The master circuit breaker is used to supply or cut off power of all Indoor
Units together. The main power supply of all Indoor Units must be cut off before any service operation.

Note: During normal operation, do not switch off the IDUs using the circuit breaker. Use the remote.

• For smooth start of unit, the main power switch must be switched ON 8 hours before start.

• Operating outdoor ambient temperature range:

Cooling 10°C to 56°C

Heating -10°C to 24°C

• Operating indoor temperature range:

Cooling 16°C to 30°C

Heating 16°C to 30°C

• It is normal that upon receiving of the ‘Stop’ signal by each Indoor Unit, the fan of the related Indoor Unit
will continue to work for a few seconds to utilise the remaining coldness or heat in the heat exchanger.
This also prepares the unit for its next use.

• When the run mode selected for an Indoor Unit conflicts with the run mode of the Outdoor Unit, e.g. when
the Outdoor Unit is running in the Cool mode but the Indoor Unit is set in the Heat mode or vice versa, the
IDU will display error code ‘U9’, and run on Fan mode (if ODU is running on Cool Mode) or stop the IDU
(if ODU is running on Heat mode). In such an event, to resume normal operation, select mode on Indoor
Unit to match that of ODU. The error code will switch off and the unit will begin functioning normally.

• During installation, do not mix communication cables with power cables. Be sure to separate them by a
minimum spacing of 600mm; otherwise communication errors may result.

Safety considerations
• Please read this manual carefully before use and follow instructions herein.

Warning

• All installation, refrigerant piping, drain piping, power and control cabling, and earthing must be done under
the guidance of Blue Star’s authorised personnel.

• Contact Blue Star's authorised personnel for repair/relocation of the units.

6
User’s Manual

Caution

• Do not install the units, control and power cables within 3m from electromagnetic waves (equipment such
as medical equipment).

• Once started, the unit shall not be switched off for at least 5 minutes; otherwise the service life of the unit
will be affected.

• Do not operate the unit with wet hands.

• Please disconnect the main power before cleaning the air filter of the IDU or while cleaning the condenser
of the ODU.

• Please disconnect the main power when the unit is not in use for long periods.

• Please do not place any goods on any of the units or stand on them.

Safety precautions while working with Inverters

1) Inverter components deal with high DC Voltage (> 500V DC).

2) All Inverter circuits have capacitors which hold DC charge in them for at least 1 minute even
after switching off the unit.

3) Wait for at least 1 minute after you switch off the power before touching the PCBs.

4) Do not touch any inverter component when the power is ON.

5) Please read all warnings and instructions carefully before opening the Control box.

6) Please ensure that power supply locking and tagging is done at site during maintenance activities.

Blue Star's 100% Inverter VRF Systems

A VRF system consists of one or a set of Outdoor Units connected to multiple Indoor Units of different types
and capacities. The VRF V Plus Outdoor Units are equipped with one or two variable speed scroll compressors
controlled by DC inverter drive. The intelligent inverter PCB operates the compressor(s) with the maximum
efficiency to deliver the actual required capacity at any point of time.

Each Indoor Unit is provided with an electronic expansion valve, which controls flow of refrigerant and hence
capacity of each Indoor Unit. Total delivered capacity of the system is based on the sum of all Indoor Units’
capacities. Optimum power is consumed to deliver this required capacity.

Advantages of Inverter Compressors

 Very low starting current
 Very precise, stepless control of capacities with the maximum part load efficiencies
 Higher COPs and IPLVs
 Direct injection of refrigerant into the compressor chamber resulting in improved efficiency and high ambient
operation without tripping
 Powerful permanent magnet rotors
 Concentrated windings resulting in further improvement in efficiency

Unique Features of the Blue Star Inverter System

 100% capacity delivered without deration up to 43°C ambient temperature
 No unloading of compressors up to 48°C
 Uninterrupted operation even at 56°C ambient temperature
 Wide voltage range
 Sophisticated controllers like PC-based control, web-based monitoring, advanced tenant billing system,
wireless WiFi-based centralised controller, mobile/tab-based control, BMS control etc.
 Larger capacity accumulator
 Longer refrigerant piping
 Protective coating for PCBs
 Service-friendly ODU design
 Wide range of ODUs and IDUs
 Fire alarm provision for safety

Routine Maintenance
1. Healthy Power Supply
A healthy power supply must be maintained to the system. The recommended rating for power supply is as
below:

Three phase : 380-420V, 3 Phase, 50Hz AC

Single Phase : 220V, 1 Phase, 50Hz

Although variation in voltage is allowed up to +/- 10%, it may be noted that operation at extreme condition
will reduce life of the components.

Notes:
1. The ODU power supply shall be always kept ON. When any Indoor Unit is switched on, it signals the ODU
to start. So the ODU must be always ready to start.
2. IDU power supply: While switching OFF any IDU, use Remote Controller. Do not switch off the power
supply to Indoor Units.
Also there are oil recovery cycles, which operate periodically. During this cycle expansion valve (of each
Indoor Unit) is fully opened to push out any oil that may have got collected. So keeping power supply ON is
must, for the health of the system.

2. Periodic Inspection

Item Period Inspection Procedure

Filter Cleaning Once in a
i. Wall Mounted month
Pull out from the ends and lift to remove the front
ii. Cassettes grille from the unit. Then remove the internal filter
iii. Concealed Splits and wash it with water. Dry the filter in the shade
and re-install it.
iv. Ducted Splits Once in
v. Floor Mounted Package 2 months
vi. Treated Fresh Air Unit Once in Since these units are exposed to outside fresh
vii. Heat Recovery Ventilator Unit 15 days air, frequency of cleaning is higher.

General Compressor Check Once in Check that all electrical connections are tight.
6 months Crankcase heater: Touch the heater body to verify
that it is warm. It is expected to be ON (warm) when
compressor is not working.
Vibration isolation pads: Check for wear and replace
if in bad condition.
Gas leak check Once a year Inspect ODU and IDUs for any leak. In case of
leak, oil traces can be found around the leak.
Inform service for futher action/checks.
Control Panel inspection Once in Check the panel for any loose wires. Inform
3 months service engineer if anything is abnormal.
Condenser Coil of Outdoor Unit Once in Clean condenser coil with pressurised air or
3 months vacuum pump; choked condenser coil will make
ODU run at higher pressure, reducing service life
and consuming more power.
