1. ADVOCACY
What: Advocacy is generally defined as public support for, or recommendation of, a particular cause or policy. For the Institute, ‘advocacy’ manifests in
two very distinct ways:
influencing decision makers within political, legislative, regulatory, economic and business spheres. Our position on any issue is informed in part
by our policy statements and involves arguing for, educating and demonstrating leadership. It involves active and responsive participation; and
generating awareness of the contribution architecture, and architects make to community. This necessarily involves engagement with community
and the demonstration of good design and its positive outcomes.
Our Advocacy objectives are to:
a) show leadership with clear, contemporary policy positions that are accessible, well understood and used to inform discussion among influencers
and members. Our policy positions will drive positive change for the profession and the community;
b) ensure that members not only contribute to the articulation of policy, but also act as enthusiastic advocates for the development of their
profession and their work; and
c) deliver, with the support of members, a range of projects that reflect the contribution architecture makes to the built environment and the wider
community.
