# SOCIOLOGY

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, social causes and
consequences of human behaviour.

It focuses on society from a scientific point of view. It has a vast scope. It
ranges from Individual to grouped social systems.

It explains the behaviour of human beings and their existence with respect to
their mutual interaction.

It throws light on social nature of math. It delves deep into the social nature of
man.

It tells why man is a social animal, why he lives in a group, communities and
societies. It examines the relationship between individual and society.

# IMPORTANCE OF SOCIOLOGY

It is useful as subject in teaching.

It helps individual to find his relation to society.

The study of society helps the government to promote welfare of tribals and
marginalised communities.

It helps in solving international problems.

It helps in understanding underlying causes and tensions.

It has drawn attention to the intrinsic worth and dignity of man.

It studies social problems through methods of scientific research and finds
solution to it.

Human culture has been made richer by the contribution of sociology.

It increases the power of social action.

It studies role of institutions in development of an individual.

# SOCIOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology and sociology are social sciences that studies human thought
processes and behaviours.

Psychology is the study of the emotions and behaviour of an individual whereas


sociology look beyond the individual to examine societal institutions and groups of
people.
Sociologists tend to work in social work, social justice, and social services while
psychologists are usually better equipped to work in human resources, health
clinics, or counselling.
Sociology studies society from view point of community element, and psychology
studies society from view point of psychological factors,
If sociological factors are stressed then we have psychosociology, and if
psychological factors are stressed then we have social psychology.
Psychology and sociology studies the same thing but with different point of view.

# SOCIOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY

The study of philosophy is an interesting challenging activity that tests one’s


mental thinking. Sociology, in contrast, is focused on human societies and issues
like inequalities, social change, social identities, and globalisation.
Sociology and Philosophy are two important fields that are complementary to
each other. 
Social Philosophy is the point where the fields of sociology and philosophy meet
each other. Its role in the social sciences involves the study of social life concepts
in the following two aspects:

 Epistemological 

 Axiological

Epistemological: The question of knowledge is dealt with by the epistemological

aspect. It has three functions in it:

 Ontological: It deals with the happiness, justice, society.

 Criteriological: It criticizes the validity of principle of supposition and

conclusions of social sciences.

 Synthetic:

Axiological: The questions of value fall under the purview of the axiological aspect.
It also deals with social life values and the means of achieving them
