Introduction
This essay is to critically examine the significance of the internal environment of Regimanuel Gray
limited and what understanding can be gained.
According to Moses Hubeis and Mukhamad Najib (2008), the internal environment is a corporate
environment in the organization and usually have a direct and specific effect on the company. The
part an internal environment plays in shaping the competitiveness of the firm is important (Hine
& Ryan, 1999). According to Tang (1998), the internal environment is typically described by its
organizational structure, resources, climate and culture'' (p. 301). How a firm manages its internal
environmental factors plays a major role in its success or failure.
The aim of SWOT analysis is to identify for Regimanuel Gray limited its internal strengths and
weaknesses that are relevant in taking advantage of existing opportunities while avoiding threats
(Humphrey, 2005). According to Pearce and Robinson (2013), the resources, capabilities and
competencies of a firm forms the basis of a its internal environment analysis.

The analysis of its internal environment will be based on its competency profile business functions.
According to Thomas L. Wheelan and David J. Hunger (2012), the internal environment of a firm
can be easily observed and analyzed through functional analysis. According to Ansoff, H. Igor, et
al (2019), marketing, finance, research & development, operations, human resources, information
systems and corporate culture forms the appropriate competency profile business with regards to
its capabilities and resources.

Marketing
According to Kotler (2009), marketing is a responsibility to create, create awareness and deliver
goods and services to consumers. Regimanuel Gray Ltd has a marketing/sales department that is
solely responsible for delivering the company’s-built homes and serviced plot to its customer base.
It has utilized the spaces on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and the
likes to advertise its built houses and serviced plots. This creates awareness to all potential and
ready customers on the market. A competitive advantage is gained as a result of this.

Finance
A company’s financial position determines its competitive position and its attractiveness. This
enables it to formulate effective strategies (Fred R. Davide, 2011). According to Simoneaux, S. L.,
& Stroud, C. L. (2011), finance is one of the key factors to be considered and it varies depending
on the type of company and its primary focus.

Operations
Operation is an important activity to convert the input provided by the logistics into the final
product form (Hitt Ireland & Hoskisson, 2011, p. 73). Regimanuel gray has a production unit
(batching plant) and other subsidiaries that are into the production of building materials using
qualified and highly skilled workforce. Concrete as an output is made from the combination of
river sand, quarry dust, chippings and cement at the batching plant. It subsidiary (Regimanuel
Concrete Product) is into the production of aggregates and pre-cast concrete products. This is a
cost reduction measure as compared to having to buy these materials from other producers at a
higher cost. This translates into the final price of houses built to make it affordable. This creates
competitive edge over its competitors.

Human Resource
According to Tambunan, T. (2009), one of the most important internal factors of a company is its
human resource. A Highly skilled and educated workforce causes the company to have high
competitiveness. Regimanuel Gray limited has a plethora of highly skilled workforce in various
departments and mostly applies the scientific management theory. The welfare of workers has
diminished over the years and this can have a negative impact on the company’s vision.

Information systems
Information systems not only can help in environmental monitoring and control of the various
activities of the company, but also can serve as a strategic weapon in the effort to gain a competitive
advantage (Thomas L. Wheelen & J. David Hunger, 2012, pg. 210). Regimanuel Gray uses a multi-
purpose software that serves the needs of various departments. All clerical operations can be
performed using this software. This makes it easy for managers to make timely decisions.
According to T.Tambunan (2009), the availability of information determines how competitive an
organization can be.

Conclusion
Internal and external environmental factors highly impact on the performance of an organization.
Once a company is able analyze its internal environment using SWOT analysis, it will be in a
better position to counter it threats and take advantage of existing opportunities.
