Abstract
Total quality management (TQM) is acknowledged as a successful management ideology in the
production and service industry. TQM can be adopted in the automobile industry to help elevate
quality and productivity. Ford Motor company shows how TQM can be flourishingly applied in
the automobile industry. Gains include lesser quality costs, greater employee job contentment
since the need for less efforts to attend to faults and client grievances, identification by clients,
proper work done from scratch, subcontractors with actual quality management systems, and direct
correlation with suppliers. TQM performance standards were also mirrored via top management
dedication, customer inclusiveness and contentment, employee participation and empowerment,
customer–supplier relationships, and process upgrade and management. Finally, some benefits of
a successful TQM application in the automobile industry are outlined.
