The EU has taken several steps to tackle this issue, including establishing policies to promote gender equality and end gender-based violence through the European Commission. In 2013, the EU also passed a law providing protection for victims of domestic violence across all member states by adopting the Istanbul Convention. Additionally, the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence holds potential to further address domestic violence through establishing common standards throughout the EU.
