INFORMATION ON
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Working with electricity is
challenging and interesting but
risky because it involves
electric current. Safety
measures should always be
observed.
Here is what to do in case
a person working on a
circuit suddenly gets
shocked or electrocuted.
1. Do not panic. Turn off
the switch or circuit
breaker before you
remove the person from
the circuit he was working
on.
2. Get a nonconducting
tool to remove the wire
or a conductor. Cut the
energized wires
immediately.
3. Use gloves to remove the
victim because you might
also get electrocuted if you
remove the person with your
bare hands.
Some Safety
Rules
To avoid injury, accidents
or death, below are some
safety rules to follow and
consider:
1. Never touch any switch with wet or
damp hands. When you touch switches or
electrical appliances with wet or damp
hands, you might get burned or receive a
severe shock.
2. Do not touch any switches
or electrical appliances like
radio or television set while
taking a bath or when wet.
3. Do not plug anything into a
socket except a plug. Keep your
sockets protected or covered to
prevent children from touching it.
4. Never overload or don’t plug
too many electric appliances
into a single connection. This
might cause a short circuit or
fire.
5. Do not put electrical
wires under carpets of
rugs.
6. Never use a coin in
the fuse box. Always
use the proper-sized
fuse.
7. Never touch a broken wire or
cable at all times especially
during and after the storm. Call
immediately an electrician or
fireman.
8. Do not remain under or
near a tree during stormy
weather. Lightning may
strike and you might get hit.
9. Never hold conducting
materials that may be
converted to a source of
electric current.
Safety measures like
grounding and safety
precautions should be
followed and considered.
1. Always use rubber gloves
and pliers with rubber
handles while working with
electricity especially with
“live currents”.
2. Always unplug from an
outlet any electrical
appliance when working on
it.
3. Always use a tester to
determine whether there is
flow of current in a circuit.
4. Always check or
reset circuit breakers.
5. Always reduce load as much as
possible before lifting the switch
of a fuse box, a high load can
result in an explosion.
