MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS USED BY FILIPINOS

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
- Any device for producing a musical sound. The principal types of such instruments,
classified by the method of producing sound, are percussion, stringed, keyboard, wind,
and electronic.

When it comes to Musical instrument, Philippines has a lot to offer Such instruments as flat
gongs, bamboo buzzers, clappers, quill-shaped percussion tubes, and brass Jew's harps are
often seen in the north. Meanwhile, bossed gongs, ring flutes, log drums, xylophones, single-
stringed violins, and suspended beams are commonly used by the Filipino natives.

The Following are some of the Musical Instruments used by the Filipinos:

The gangsa is a percussion instrument


used in the Cordillera region during
gatherings, celebrations, and even
rituals. In one sense, it is used to call
everyone's attention and to celebrate
people's camaraderie and oneness of
the people in one place.

Solibao is a wooden tenor drum of the


Cordilleran tribes. It is made of deer, pig,
or lizard skin and is played by beating the
drum head with both hands' palms. The
player strikes the instrument while holding
it at an angle to the body.
The tongatong is an instrument of
the Kalinga tribe who live in the northern
part of Luzon Island in the Philippines. It is
a sort of stamping tube made of bamboo,
which is very easy to make by only cutting
near the knots.

Diw Diw-As has 5 nodes of bamboo of


varying length are tied in a row with a
rattan string. It is played by blowing across
the open holes.

Majority of these Instruments were made by Filipino natives/tribes in Cordillera, we can say or
assume that we Filipinos are natural Genius when it comes to making and playing different
Kinds of Instruments.
