Vocal Form
Salidumay
§ A song introduced during World War
II and has Limited voice range and uses
ornamentations like tremolos and slides.
Bad-iw
§ Is an Ibaloy or Ibaloi death ritual
song.
§ It uses a leader chorus type
singing.
Og-gayam
§ Is an Itneg song.
§ The Kalinga flute may accompany
the melody of the og-gayam
during performance.
Kalinga Ethnic Instruments
• One of the most used
instruments in Cordilleran
Region.
• It is very rich in singing and
instruments playing.
The Different Ethnic
Instruments
1. Gangsa
- A flat gong without boss and considered
as of the treasured instruments.
Two ways on playing the Gangsa:
a. Gangsa-toppaya
b. Gangsa-palook
2. Bunkaka or Balingbing (Bamboo
Buzzer)
- It is a bamboo tube with an opening or
split at one end.
3. Patangguk (quill-shaped
tube)
- Made of one intermode of a long
slender variety of bamboo.
- It produces variety of pitch and
timbre, the thumbhole along the
side of the handle may be closed
or left open.
4. Patatag or
Pateteg
(leg xylophone
- It is a set of bamboo blades in
graduated sizes.
- It is played in an ensemble of six
members by one to two sticks
and produces string and
dampened sound.
5. Tongatong (stamping
tube)
- It consists of six bamboo tubes of
different lengths with a node base
but open at the upper end.
- The player strikes the base
against a hard surface and
simultaneously covering and
uncovering the upper ends of the
tubes.
6. Ulibaw (Jew’s harp)
- Commonly used for courtship and
entertainment, played solo.
- Characterized by a very thin slit with thin
tounge at the middle part
- Played through plucking and players
mouth served as resonator.
7. Kolitong or Kulintong
- It is a stringed instruments made
of a single bamboo piece around
3-4 inches in diameter with a
node at each end.
8. Saggeypo (pipe)
- A set of five, six or more bamboo
pies with different size played in
three or more ensembles.
- Played by young and old women
or men during relaxation or to
socialize with other tribe.
9. Diwdiw-as (panpipes)
- Igorot term form panpipes
- Played by botn young and old women
- A roe of five or more slim bamboo tubes
varying in lengths tied with each other.
10. Tongali (nose flute)
- It has five holes, usually played solo by
men to two woemn and for general
entertainment.
11. Sulibaw or solibao
(conical drum)
- A drum with a skinhead played
with a padded stick or by tapping
using open hand
12. Paldong
- It is traditional bamboo lip-valley
flute. Open at both ends and has
four finger holes.
- Most of the time improvision is
played by men for serenading,
courting women, or passing
leisure time.
Interlock – is the united and connected sounds of the different instruments.
Interlocking Technique – is a stylistics device creating a resultant melody through
the distributions of five or more instruments.

1. Aerophone – sound produce by air
2. Chordophone - sound produce by string
3. Idiophone - sound produce by way of the instruments by itself vibrating without
the use of strings.
4. Membranophone - sound produce by skin attached on the instruments.
Folk Arts and Crafts of
Mindoro, Marinduque,
Romblon, and Palawan

Oriental Mindoro is also
known as the Rice Granary Dubbed as "Marine
and Fruit Basket of Wonderland,"
Southern Tagalog.
What is special about Mindoro?

Folk Arts and Crafts of
Central and Eastern Visayas
Cebu
Known as “Queen City of
the South”. It is
considered as one of the
most important
metropolitan center in the
country. Internationally
tagged as “City of Fashion
and Designs” and
“ASEAN CITY of Culture”
Guitar making is one of
the folk arts of Cebu.
Their guitars are known
for it’s durability, unique
sound, and well crafted
design.
Samar, Leyte, and Biliran Island
Weaving is already embedded in the culture of the Warays and
Cebuano's living in Samar, Leyte, and Biliran Islands. Their ingenuity is
evident in their bags, baskets, and other native crafts.
SAMAR
The art of Basey in Samar is know for its colorful and handwoven
banig or mat that came from the tikog leaves.
There are two process in making a basey: weaving which is
locally known as baniglara and embroidery or burda.
Bohol

Antequera is famously known for its basket weaving
industry. It is the major source of livelihood. Basket weaving skills
has been passed down from older generations to younger
generations in Antequera since 1900s.
