-It is when force succeeds in moving
an object in the direction where it’s
applied on.
Formula of Work:
W=F (Force) x D (Displacement in
the direction of the force applied on
the object)
W=F x D
Different Types of Measurement
for Work: Positive and Negative Work
Newton-meter (n·m)- A
measurement used for work to
describe that 1 newton of force
moves an object at a distance of
1 meter.
Joule- Another measurement
used for work in honor of
James Prescott Joule. It has
also the same value as newton-
meter. This SI Unit is now used
for work because newton-meter
is sometimes used for torque.
Erg- It is the smaller unit of
work, from the Greek word
“ergon” which means work. It
describes that 1 dyne of force
moves an object at a distance of
one centimeter.
Formulas:
1 J= 1 n·m
1 J= 10⁷ ergs
1 erg=1 dyne·cm
Positive Work- It describes
work that goes in the same
direction as the motion of the
object acted upon by that force
or its displacement.
Negative Work- It describes the
force that goes in the opposite
direction of the motion of the
object being acted upon by that
force or its displacement.
