We all are aware of the three circles of sustainability. Economic – e.g. we design something using less energy
impacting reduction of cost. Environmental – here lower the energy use, lesser the harm to the environment and the
social sustainability ­ specifying and managing both positive and negative impacts of systems, processes,
organizations, and activities on people and social life. Basically, we live in this world where we pretend that we are
interconnected to one another. This can be applied from different countries in the world to even a small village of a
community. Let’s take an example. Covid – The pandemic caused such a jeopardy situation throughout the world. The
virus in one country caused a hilarious impact on the other countries too! Essentially I mean that decisions made on the
other side of the planet can have ripple effects. And that’s how I wanted to convey that how we all are interconnected to
each other. The decisions that are seen as very common to you can have far­reaching effects. So, to start with we
should think socially first. Short term goals can be migrated to long term goals. As everything is interconnected, start to
be in hygiene. Though, a healthy society starts with a healthy individual. After all, sustainable development is the
development aiming at improving the well­being and the quality life for all now and in the future.
“The ability of a community to develop processes and structures which not only meet the needs of its current members
but also support the ability of future generations to maintain a healthy community.” Recently, design has been identified
as a key strategic tool for achieving social sustainability. If sustainability is understood as the continuation of human life
on earth, there is no alternative. Whatever the cost, we have to bear it.
“Sustainable is cheap” What do you think? 
If we take a ride to few years back in the ancient time, we can see that our nature, our environment was capable of
giving us our basic needs. Because, previously humans were used to respect the nature. They used to take care of it
because they knew that nature is the only thing on which they were surviving. It gave them food, cloths and shelter.
That’s it? Yes. Today we have 4 basic needs instead of, food, cloths, shelter and luxury! No one can survive now
without luxury. And that’s why the environment is getting ignored. I am not against of luxury of course, but against of
using it recklessly without any good need or reason. Basically, the cost of sustainability is quite low as far as it’s the
need if food clothing and shelter. As population grows, the needs grows resulting manufacturing, then workers, labors,
money, energy and many more things causing the social sustainability at higher rates. It’s our choice that we have to
become fully luxurious and make sustainability more expensive impacting harm to different grade of people or else be
less luxurious and aware of the community and environment and make the world sustainable.
