CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION FOR KHETAN BUILDERS

 The loss of the government contract has caused mounting pressure on Khetan, as they
are touted to be listed on the National Stock Exchange in 2 weeks. A lot of contractors
have lost their confidence in the quality of work maintained by Khetan due to the very
public and embarrassing way in which the contract was revoked.
 However, there have indeed been faults on their part. Rather than complying with the
Central Government Guidelines, the head of the site construction, went rogue and
tried to create a World-Health-Organization-Guidelines complying imaging centre.
While this is indeed state-of-the-art, what Khetan didn’t do is inform the government
of the design followed by the unit.
 There are rumours spreading that their competitor, Amarchand, has applied for the
second tender. Khetan absolutely cannot let them have the contract and this would
cause their listing position to further deteriorate. The ideal scenario here would be to
bargain their way back into construction.
 However, due to the disruption caused, such work can only be completed in 1 year –
much further from the date pre-decided. Any shorter timelines would incur high
operating costs which Khetan cannot handle without assurances of payment.
