Facility Types
Technologies For steel frame buildings, the ground bus should be connected to each outside building column.
Building Design In large buildings, a network should be provided to include internal building columns. The ground
Introduction bus should be connected to electrodes at intervals of 200 feet or less. If the building consists of
more than one floor, each floor should have its own ground, but it in turn must be connected by a
number of conductors to the main ground bus on the first floor.
When a building does not
have a steel framework, a
ground network equivalent
to the above should be
provided. Grounding
conductors must be taken
directly to the ground bus.
Better accessibility and
possible installation savings
are obtained if an exposed
bus is provided in the upper
structure. NEC Section 250-
51 establishes requirements
for an effective grounding
path for equipment
grounding, etc.
