Representing Indonesia

One of my proudest moments in life would be representing Indonesia on the

world stage for an international piano competition. It happened a few years back in 2019,
in the Netherlands before the pandemic started. The feeling of winning and representing
Indonesia internationally was surreal, definitely an experience that I will cherish for the
rest of my life.

I started playing piano at the age of 4, with my dad as my first mentor. There was
an old keyboard at home, and my dad told me that I used to be so happy every time
someone was playing it. It was at that moment when my dad realized that I had
developed a passion towards the piano at a young age. I started attending piano lessons
weekly a short while after.

It took me a while, but after a lot of tries, I finally won my first piano
competition. By the time I was 15, I had won more than 35 national awards as a pianist. I
was already one of Indonesia’s leading young pianists, but I always strive to be the best I
can be. Everything seems to lead to one particular moment. The day I was selected to be
Indonesia’s representative to go to the Netherlands to join the annual International Piano
Competition in 2019. I was astounded by the fact that I will travel overseas to represent
my country. It was a dream come true.

As soon as I landed in the Netherlands, my plan was to go directly to the venue

and have a practice session. I was flabbergasted to see the best pianists from all over the
globe standing right in front of me. The intensity was unreal. Everyone seems very
focused and ready to compete for their country.

It was finally my turn to play. I had goosebumps seeing the Indonesian flag
waved as I entered the stage. However, when I started playing, it all came naturally. The
hard work I put in all these years finally paid off. I really enjoyed the moment and my

performance was almost flawless. Shortly after, I was announced as the second place
winner of my category.

For me, that was the best day of my life because I made my family, school, friends, and
most importantly my country proud. Music will always be a part of my life, whatever I
do and wherever I go.
