"There is no money in poetry, but there is no poetry in money either."

This reflects a difference between romanticism and realism. In today's world we find that people value
anything that will generate a future income, but we often forget that this income is required for the sake
of spiritual peace, freedom and happiness. This is something that philosophy can do. Simply reading
philosophy will not help you in any way, just as reading about cooking will not give you tasty dishes.

There are various concepts of philosophy but as you asked about the main concept, as per my opinion,
its the study of the ultimate nature of existence, reality, knowledge and goodness discoverable by us
(human beings). The search for knowledge and truth, especially about the nature of man and his behavior
and beliefs.Philosophy provides a good way of learning to think with clarity about a wide range of issues,
and its methods of analyzing the subjective arguments which can be useful in dealing with a variety of
situations in our life .

It is the love of wisdom, the envy to ask and know, and as of the founders of philosophy Socrates said
that the unexamined life is not worth living. He said he only knows one thing ; that he knows nothing.

Related What are the basics about philosophy?

I’m not sure what you meant to ask. There are a lot of philosophy “basics,” including ideas, key
arguments, and fields. As such is the case, the most accurate answer I could give you is a list of what I
refer to as the pillars of philosophy. In other words, these are the main subjects / subsets of philosophy
that people study.
1. Epistemology: What can we know, if anything? Why can we know anything? What is the basis for
our knowing anything?

2. Existentialism: Why are we here? What does it mean to live a good life? Does life have meaning?
How does one derive meaning without the presence of a god?

I would say that there are no fundamental beliefs or teachings of philosophy, just a fundamental practice,
which is to not to accept anything at face value but keep questioning and challenging.

Of course, philosophers being philosophers, some will surely not accept my answer but will question and
challenge it, but that’s the nature of the beast.

The most basic thing a philosopher will teach you is that you have to constantly looking for the answers.
These “looking for answer” thing will not let you sleep at nights. You see a lot of new ways of doing the
same routine things. You just dont follow because it has been taught through generation but you have
discovered new ways to do it. Bur major life philosophy demands discussion and arguements to prove its
validation. However, philosophy is to make life easier and worthwhile.
(most people misinterprete rigidity as philosophy and when you face it, change the angle of seeing things
again)

Philosophy is the study of fundamental questions for which there is no method known for getting
answers that people within the field will agree on. When such a method is discovered for a certain class
of questions, they move from philosophy to another domain.

Thus scientists up to Isaac Newton transformed Natural Philosophy into Physics. Lavoisier transformed
alchemy into chemistry, leaving behind questions about transforming human nature. Philosophical
objections to various kinds of number (0, negative numbers, complex numbers, infinities, infinitesimals)

At a sales conference at Random House, preceding the publication of Atlas Shrugged, one of the book
salesmen asked Ayn Rand whether she could present the essence of her philosophy while standing on
one foot. She did as follows:

1. Metaphysics: Objective Reality

2. Epistemology: Reason

3. Ethics: Self-interest

4. Politics: Capitalism

If you want this translated into simple language, it would read: 1. “Nature, to be commanded, must be
obeyed” or “Wishing won’t make it so.” 2. “You can’t eat your cake and have it, too.” 3. “Man is an end in
himself.” 4. “Give me liberty or give me death.”

There really is no such thing. In particular, there’s no agreed-upon definition of exactly what counts as
philosophy. What philosophical questions tend to have in common is that there is no way to settle them
simply by making observations or doing science or doing math, and that there are plausible reasons in
favor of incompatible answers. (For example: you can’t settle the question of whether we have free will
just by doing science—contrary to what some people naively think, and there are serious arguments for
thinking that we do and for thinking that we don’t have it.)

Back in the days, most people don’t go to school. They don’t have television and they don’t have social
media. Meaning that all things pertaining to human decency and morality are taught and learned by the
people around them. And should the people around them fail to teach them human decency, they simply
won’t have any. Which is why philosophy was so crucial back then.

The main objective of philosophy was to educate people about human decency in a society so that they
can better integrate themselves into that society. Which is why most philosophy that were created in the

We ask all sorts of questions. Which ones of them qualified for inquiry of reality? I think we’re supposed
to question own existence, own self and social and universal issues only because we want to know.
Merely asking question and answering/guessing don’t make sense. Anyone can come up with any idea.
