Motivation “Write it Fast”
 Class divide into 4 groups
 The leader of each group holds a chalk or white board marker
 The leader of each group goes in front, one of them picks a category.
 The leader go back to their teams and tell them the category
 The teams then brainstorm words in the category and write them down .
 The first team to finish shouts “STOP”
 The winning team calls out their answer. And rest of the team crashed out the answer what was mentioned.

Possible Questions
1. It is a pattern of writing that tells a story of an event or an experience.
2. It includes the three components of a formal definition which are term to be defined, the general class to which
the term belongs, and the characteristics that make the term different from all other terms in that class.

Organizing information through a brainstorming list


Brainstorming - Process of writing down specific topics from different sources

A group or individual creative technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by
gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its member .

IDEA LISTING-Simply involves listing down ideas about a particular topic.


For example:

FOR EXAMPLE

The above example shows a general topic: school. The left column shows elements present in school while the right
column specifies one aspect of the element on the left. This list is generated by writing down ideas that come to mind

ADVANTAGES OF BRAINSTORMING
It encourage creative thinking

It makes everyone part of team
It is exciting and easy.
DISADVANTAGES OF BRAINSTORMING
It only works when everyone in the room has something to say
Without strict control or leader present, the group may take long time to get the solution
Group with a large members will not be effective.
People with high emotions are not allowed.

Organizing Information through Graphic Organizers

Graphic organizers are visually organize information that shows how ideas relate to one another.

Different kinds of graphic organizers include mind maps, Venn diagrams, flow charts, and hierarchical topical
organizers.
Different Kinds of Graphic Organizers
Mind map - used to represent knowledge of a concept or idea. It is useful for brainstorming and exploring topics or
ideas.
Venn Diagram - used to show the similarities and differences between two or more people, objects, or ideas.
Flow chart - used to show the different steps in a process.
Hierarchical topical organizer - shows the order of ideas and their place in a hierarchy.
Benefits of Using Graphic Organizers
 Helps students structure a writing project;
 Encourages students to make decisions;
 Makes it easy for students to classify ideas and communicate;
 Allows students to examine the relationship between concepts;
 Guides students in demonstrating their thinking process;
 Helps students improve reading comprehension;
 Makes it easy to brainstorm; and
 Encourages students to organize essential concepts and ideas.

Writing a Topic Outline

Topic Outline- A list of ideas arranged in order in a specific order and show how information is presented in writing

-Divided into two levels: the headings and the subheadings

The headings represent the main ideas and are indicated by Roman numerals, while the subheadings represent the
supporting ideas and are indicated by capital letters.

Sub-subheadings are the specific details or concrete examples of the supporting ideas.

Steps in Writing a Topic Outline

1. Identify your topic, thesis statement, and purpose for writing.

2. Figure out the main points.

3. Arrange the main points in a logical order.

4. Identify and write down the supporting ideas for each main point.

5. Evaluate your outline.

Topic: Study Habits

Thesis statement: It is important to develop good study habits to achieve one’s academic goals.

Writer’s specific purpose: To inform readers about the importance of developing study habits and provide
suggestions to develop healthy study habits

Writing a Sentence Outline

- It is a more specific outline technique because it already states the main idea and the supporting ideas in full
sentences.

Steps in Writing a Sentence Outline


1. Write your thesis statement. It should be a complete, declarative sentence.
2. Create a list of main points to support the thesis. State them in complete sentences.
3. Write a list of supporting ideas for each main point. State them in complete sentences.

EXAMPLE:

Topic: Use of Electronic Textbooks in School


Thesis statement: Schools should switch to electronic textbooks to save money and paper.
Writer’s specific purpose: To suggest to schools that electronic textbooks are better options than physical ones because
these can save money and paper
It takes many pieces of paper to write just one textbook.
An average textbook could take around 300 to 400 pages or more.
Combined the number of pages with the number of students in a classroom would mean a lot of paper and money used.
Textbooks should be switched to electronic ones.
Some students are starting to use online applications and electronic books and have seen their benefits.
The switch will help reduce the harm the creation of textbooks brings to the environment
