Lessons Learned
After you have completed the research on all ten (10) companies, discuss five (5) lessons learned. Focus on things
you didn’t know about prior to this assignment. This section should be at least 300 words.
I learnt that the success of an organization does not depend on its size but rather, on the management
practices. Amazon is the world’s largest retailer in the e-commerce industry, and it has only been in the market for
24 years. It beats Target which is a competitor in retail business though it has been in service for 116 years. The
performance also depends on the industry in which the organization operates and the customers it serves. I learnt
that most successful organizations adopt both a B2B and B2C model in their operations. The B2C model helps the
firm to capture the larger number of customers through e-commerce while the B2B model allows organizations to
extend their services to other organizations who buy in bulk. Another lesson is that publicly owned companies
have a better opportunity to expand their operations compared to private companies. Amazon ranks among the
largest publicly traded company in the United States allowing global participation of its customers. Although some
privately owned companies develop to occupy a significant market share, they need to partner with other smaller
firms. Another lesson is that technology plays a crucial role in improving customer relations. City Furniture
captures a significant market share in the American market due to its involvement in e-commerce, and so does
Amazon. E-commerce, therefore, enables firms to reach a wide range of customers who seek efficiency through
the internet. Another lesson is that the hospitality industry is less competitive because there are a vast number of
services from which organizations can choose. For instance, Quirch Foods has been in the industry for 51 years,
and it specializes in food distribution. Similarly, Riverside Hotel has been in the market for 82 years but with a
specialization in the hospitality industry. However, both organizations complete for a large share of the hotel
industry.
Connections to Course
Discuss five (5) ways in which this assignment and the process you went through, is connected to this course. Be
sure to state the chapter and concept it’s connected to. Think it the concepts you’ve learned so far, the process
you went through and how these are similar to what a salesperson goes through. This section should be at least
300 words.
The career exploration course purposes on equipping students with the skills to navigate the job market
after completing their school. The course empowers students with the necessary skills to make clear and informed
choices about their future. The course helps students to evaluate their strengths and interests in various careers
so that they understand the skills necessary to fit in those specific positions. By navigating multiple organizational
websites, students can identify the available job positions, the job requirements and duties and responsibilities
related to a particular job. A course in career exploration is beneficial to students in that it helps to detect the
position of interest after which they seek to acquire the necessary qualifications after school. Although job
requirements for similar positions are similar among organizations, an individual needs to conduct extensive
research on the exact requirements for those tasks. Students can explore various careers to determine the salary
description so that they focus on those careers that attract high salaries. This is similar to the process a
salesperson goes through because they have to research on different organizations to determine the available
opportunities. Salespeople must then navigate across various organizational websites to establish the necessary
qualifications. They can only apply for those opportunities if their qualifications match the job requirements. In
some cases, salespeople may have to add onto their skill level to match the needs of the sales position they hope
to get. Another reason why salespeople navigate across various careers is to determine the salary range and
benefits package attached to the job title. This knowledge of different companies’ offerings will help a salesperson
to choose the organization that offers reasonable payment with regards to the job specifications. However,
salespeople that have no experience can take advantage of the entry-level jobs in various organizations so that

they get the necessary experience to apply for higher positions. Learning is a continuous process, and salespeople
must ensure that they have the right skills to fit in the workplace in the 21st century.
