IAB Hands-On Lab – BOM Pricing
June 2018

About This Lab

Integrated Architecture Builder uses either system-provided pricing or price information that you supply as
the source for the product descriptions and prices that it includes in the project Bill of Materials (BOM). If
you use user-supplied pricing, you can add multiple price files to IAB for use in BOM generation, including
multiple price files from the Rockwell Automation Price List CD application. You can add new price files,
remove old price files, and specify the order in which IAB will check price files when generating a BOM.
In this hands-on lab exercise, you will learn:

 The requirements for price files used by IAB

 How locate the multiple price files from the Rockwell Automation Price List application (Price List
CD)
 How to use System Provided Price Lists or Customer Provided Price Lists
 How to add price files to IAB
 How to remove price files from IAB
 How to specify the order in which IAB checks price files

Who Should Complete This Lab

This hands-on lab is intended for all IAB users.

 View the IAB project BOM to see how prices are currently presented
 Open the List of Price Files
 View how to use both System Provided Prices and Customer Provided Price Lists
 Add a New Customer Provided Price File
 Change the Order of Price Files so the newly-added price file takes precedence

8. IAB allows you to use System-Provided List Pricing or, as an alternative option, an external User-
Provided Price List. Notice that System Provided List Pricing is set as the default:

If you select System-Provided List Pricing, IAB uses RAISE list price data to populate descriptions
and prices in the BOM. The particular list prices used for the System Provided Pricing are
determined when the user installs the Product Selection Toolbox software containing IAB. During
installation, the user specifies a country location, which determines which price list is used. System-
Provided List Pricing is updated through the Current Program Updater.

9. To use User-Provided Pricing, select the User-Provided Pricing radio button:

Next, we need to browse for the .CSV price file list we want to use.

10. Click the Add button in the User Supplied Parts List Files window:

NOTE:

If there are multiple available price files, you can select the file and then click the Up Arrow button to
move the new price file to the top of the list so that it will be the first price file IAB checks when it
creates a BOM.

When IAB generates a Bill of Materials, it looks to price files that you supply to find descriptions and
prices for items in the configuration. You can specify one or more price file files that IAB will search.
IAB searches the price files in the order they are listed and uses the first instance it finds of a catalog
number to provide the descriptions and price for the BOM. Use the up/down arrow buttons to
prioritize the order in which the files are searched.

Price File Requirements

Each Price File must:

 Be a spreadsheet in .csv format (If you get a price file in .xls format, you need to open it, then do a Save As… in
.csv format.)

 Include columns for catalog number, description, and price

The columns in a price file do not have to be in any particular order or location, and the spreadsheet can also include other
columns. You will specify which columns contain the required information when you add a price file to IAB.

Where to Get Price Files

You can use any price file that meets the above requirements. Do know that you cannot mix system and user-supplied
price files.

11. Click the Modify icon in the Price list file dialog:

And click Open:

13. Notice in the CSV File Format area of the dialog, the column numbers have been set to 1, 2, and 3:

The new price file now appears in the

User Supplied Parts List Files .

selections, your Price list file should
look like this.

provided is from a user specified file.

the menu bar:

Or

You have now performed the actions you’ll use to add, remove, and order price files in IAB.

NOTE:

Another way to address pricing for an IAB project is to export the project to ProposalWorks (File 
Export to ProposalWorks File…). When you export an IAB project to ProposalWorks, the prices and
descriptions provided by the IAB price file are not included in the export; rather, the prices and
descriptions from ProposalWorks are substituted. When the exported IAB project is opened in
ProposalWorks, the pricing functionality in ProposalWorks is used for pricing instead of the prices from
IAB. For more information, see the Lab Exercise for IAB Export to ProposalWorks.
