El presente

What is the present tense?

The present tense are habitual actions that are happening in the present tense

Time expression are used to say when or how often the actions takes place

Examples

 Reanna and I sing in the church everyday here every day is the time expression
 Javil studies Spanish once in a while once in a while is the time expression

Time expressions in the present tense

 Everyday/every morning/every night/every afternoon


 Always
 Once in a while
 Sometimes
 Often
 Never
 Every year/every Monday/every month/every week/every weekend etc
 Daily
 Each day/year/month etc

What is the infinitve of a verb? In English the infitinive of a verb is shown whenever the verb starts with
(to) for example: to drink, to walk, to see, etc

Verbs can either be regular or irregular

Regular verbs maintain their stem however irregular verbs does not maintain their stem

What is a stem? A stem is the reminder of a verb before being conjugated

What is a conjugation? A conjugation is the breakdown of a verb for each subject pronoun

Example

Trabajar means to work, in Spanish the infinitive of a verb is shown at the end of the verb, here the
infinitive is ar. whereas in English you have it at the beginning (to)
In Spanish there are three types of conjugation of verbs, those who’s infinitive end with in ar an er and ir

Now, in other to conjugate a verb in Spanish this is how you do it

First thing you do is that you remove the ending, either er, ir or ar

For example hablar means to speak, to conjugate this verb you remove the ar what you being left with is
the steam habl then you add the ending which correspond to the subject pronoun

He speaks in class everyday, here the subject pronoun is he, so to habl you add an a so that will be

Irregular verbs

Pedir changes the e to an i

Tiene changes the e to an ie

Jugar changes the u to an ue

Poder changes the o to an ue

NB there are many other irregular verbs but these are just few of them

Pedir- to beg/ ask for poder- to be able jugar- to play

Go go verbs are verbs that end with go in the first person
