CONTEXT:

Narration for the party scene

(Both Mia and her friend are on the phone)

MIA AND FRIEND ON THE PHONE:

FRIEND: “How’s your mum been?”

MIA: “Yeah, she’s alright.. Just traveling as usual” - (sad almost

distraught tone) - the “as usual” (sarcastic tone)

FRIEND: “You’re so lucky you get to have a house to yourself” (envious

tone yet still kind and content)

MIA: “I wish I had a house to myself” (somewhat irritable tone) -

(short pause) “My mum insists I have a babysitter” (said in an
obviously irritated tone)

FRIEND: (confused tone) - “But you’re 18 though” - (rather

questionable tone)

MIA: “I know!” - (a little declarative/exclamative tone)

FRIEND: “Why do you have a babysitter at 18?” - (judgmental tone)

MIA: “She doesn’t trust me” (assertive tone)

(Long pause)- making the conversation more realistic

FRIEND: “hmm, I mean” (short pause) “is she nice at least?”

MIA: “Well she’s nice, but she’s so annoying.. She’s constantly there
and I have no space to myself” (Very annoyed tone)

(Long Pause) - making the conversation more realistic

FRIEND: “Uhm” (short pause for dramatic effect) - “have you ever
thought about running away, or like sneaking out?”

MIA: “You know when I was a kid, I used to think about running away” -
(Curious tone)

FRIEND: “Then just do it” (assertive tone)

MIA: “Where would I go?”

FRIEND: “Come crash at mine, you can stay at mine anytime” (somewhat
excited and reassuring tone)

(Long pause) - making the conversation more realistic

FRIEND: “But like, you have to make sure that you sneak out properly,
and like, you don’t get caught” - (not to be mistaken for a
considerate tone, the friend is being a ‘bad influence’ here)

MIA: “She’s out for a couple hours in the day” (short pause for
dramatic effect) “I could come then)

FRIEND: “Just do it” - (assertive tone)
