[Mother is doing house chores, while the children are watching television]
Narrator : “In the town of Palembang, there lived a simple family of five. Father was
the owner of a small convenience store, while Mother was a housewife.”
Father : (enters the front door) “Good evening, sweetheart! Daddy is home! Where
are my little angels?” (hugs Mother affectionately)
[David skips towards Father]
Mother : “Come on, pumpkins, dinner is ready!” (laughing softly while turning off the
television)
[In the dining room]
Father : (taking a spoonful of food) “What about you, Merry, how was your school
today?”
Merry : (disinterestedly poked her food around) “Oh, you know, the usual. Nothing
big. By the way, I’m going out with my friends to the movies tonight. Don’t wait for me, I’ll
be home late.”
Mother : (concerned) “Oh, Merry, why do you have to go out so late? Why don’t you
just go tomorrow?”
Merry : (rolling her eyes) “Mom, please. I already told you the new Rhoma Irama
movie premiere will be tonight!”
Father : (jokingly) “Okay, okay, be careful, pumpkin. If you’re not home by ten, I’m
locking the door!”
-BLACK OUT-

[Father, Mother  exit]

-Lagu FANCY nyala, lampu putih nyala sorot ke depan/bagian bawah panggung-
Merry : (exit through the front door, greets Amanda and Anas) “Hey gurlsss..! Are
you    guys ready? I can’t wait to watch Cek Olshop Sebelah. Anyway, is Mario going to
come with us?”
Anas : “Hon, please. Is that boy ever out of your mind? But I wouldn’t worry too
much, he must be with Steven or Bast. Speaking of which, Mand, you’ve gotta listen to this. I
have some news.”
Amanda : “Girl, I can’t even. You always gossip every time we’re going out.”
Anas : “Did you know your ex, Wong, was going out alone with Kim yesterday?!”
[Merry, Amanda, Anas exit, chatting excitedly]

SCENE 2

[Setting in the cinema, relaxed and chill atmosphere, dim lighting, movie theatre voice-over

Mario : (touches Merry’s shoulder) “Heyyy, Merry. Haven’t seen you in a while.
How are you?”
Merry : (smiles shyly) “Uh… Hey… I’m really fine… You?”
Mario : “That makes the two of us. Oh, forgive how selfish I am talking about
myself. Anyway, you look really stunning, hehehe…”
[Amanda noticed the closeness of the pair, whispers to Gwyneth]
Anas : “Hey, will you and Mario wait up for the tickets? Amanda and I are going to
get some snacks for us. Steven, Bast, why don’t you guys be nice and help us out.”
Steven : “Huh? You might as well get snacks for a village. You two just go.”
Amanda : (pulls Steven and Bast while subtly giving a code) “Be quiet, you. Just come
with us, or else we ain’t leaving you any snacks later!”
Bast : (nods after getting the message) “Ooo… Oi, Mar, buy the back row tickets,
yeah! A1 and A2 if you can! So we can watch more comfortably…”
[Mario smirks, then puts hit arm around Merry]
[Gwyneth, Amanda, Steven, and Bast exit]

SCENE 3
[Setting in the living room, tense atmosphere, very bright lighting, tense music]
MUSIC : Dramatic diulang ulang sampai scene habis
Lighting On (kuning remang dikit tpi tetap terang) nyorot ke bagian kiri bagian kanan

Narrator : “That was the beginning of a toxic friendship. The once innocent friendship
between Mario and Merry went too far and changed their plans for their future. Long story
short, Merry was obliged to become a mother of five children way ahead of her time.”
[Merry carries her infant child while Mario reads the newspaper]
Merry : “How is it, babe? Have you hear back from the interview you had a while
back?”
Mario : (rolls his eyes) “Of course I haven’t, baby. Just be patient and wait. I’m also
looking for other job offers in the news.”
Merry : (irritated) “It has been two weeks and you haven’t heard anything?
Mario : (lifts his voice) “Then why don’t you help me find work as well?! Do you
think money grows on trees?! All you can do is complaining and whining every day!”
Merry : (shouts) “Think, Mario! I have to take care of David, clean up the house,
then I still have to work?!
Mario : (stands up, raising the newspaper at Merry) “Don’t you dare talk to me like
that! Watch that mouth!”
Mario : (walks toward the exit, slams the door while mumbling) “Stupid wife!”

SCENE 4
[Setting in the living room and bedroom, messy and fiery atmosphere, yellow to red
transitioning lighting, tense music]
MUSIC : Tense diulang ulang sampai scene habis
Lighting on (warna merah) nyorot ke bagian kiri bagian kanan matikan
[The stage is divided into living room and bedroom]
[Merry enters living room; children enter bedroom]
[Mario enters living room through the door with a bottle of whiskey in hand]
Merry : (hands on her hips, skeptical) “Oh, so this is what you’ve been doing,
coming home drunk late at night every day?”
Mario : (drunk and tipsy) “Shut up. I need to sleep.”
Merry : (shouting) “STOP! What, is this what you want to be, solving all your
problems with drinking?! You know very well money is scarce and you spend it all on
alcohol to wreck your body! Do you want our kids to look up to you?!”
Mario : (throws the bottle to Merry, then slaps Merry) “You ungrateful witch! If not
because of you we wouldn’t have ended up this way! You and your children both!”
Merry : (crying, backs up towards the wall whilst covering her face) “Don’t you dare
bring our kids into this!” (takes a glass and throw it)
Mario : (throwing a plate) “Yes this is all your fault! All you do is whine yet you
can’t contribute any work! You useless trash! Idiot!” (throws a hit on Merry)
LIGHTING : bagian kanan nyala setelah gwyneth dkk masuk ; bagian kiri tetap nyala
MUSIC : Tense tapi kecilkan
Merry : (stumbles, covering herself) “You never try to understand! All I have done is
for you and this family! I HATE YOU! YOU PIG! IT’S TRUE WHAT THEY SAY THAT
ALL MEN ARE MONSTERS!!!”
[Mario and Merry continues to throw household equipment, Mario punches and kicks Merry]
[Gwyneth, Verena, Bast, and Steven eavesdrop in the bedroom]
[Bast covers Steven’s ears]
Gwyneth : “I bet you one of ‘em is going to ask for divorce! I bet you twenty
thousand!”
Bast : (calms Bast and Steven) “Let’s just go to sleep.”
Steven : (waving her hands frantically at Gwyneth) “Oh, come on, that’s too easy.
This happens all the time they’ve never mentioned the divorce word. Besides, they probably
don’t want the neighbors to snoop..”
[Mario and Merry scream at each other, pointing and swinging plates and glasses]
Merry : “You know who cleans this house every day?!! Who do you think prepare
your food?! Who gets screamed at because of your debts?!” (points to herself) “ME! THAT’S
WHO!”
Gwyneth : (cheering) “ ‘I want a divorce’, ‘I want a divorce’, ‘I want a divorce’!”
Mario : “SHUT UP YOU WITCH!! IDIOT!! USELESS TRASH!!”
Steven : (praying) “Don’t say the word… Don’t say the word…”
Merry : (screams) “I WANT A DIVORCE!!!”
Gwyneth : “YES!!” (high-fives Verena)
Steven : “NOOO!!” (takes out a twenty thousand bill from her wallet, gives it to
Gwyneth)

[Merry arrives in Surabaya, walks around bringing her suitcase]
Narrator : “With some money from her parents, Merry went to Surabaya by herself.
She planned to get a job that could get her a lot of money in a short amount of time after she
received some information from an acquaintance.”
Merry : (keeps walking while looking around then approaches the realtor) “Hello !”
Realtor : (gives faire la bise to Merry with “mwah” sounds) “Hello, Merry! It’s been
awhile. How are you?”

[Setting inside The Boss’ manager’s office, netral atmosphere, dim lighting, classical music]
MUSIC :
Lighting on (remang remang warna biru) nyorot ke bagian depan kanan adi duduk di
situ
[Upon arriving in The Boss Executive Karaoke]
Manager : (sitting on the swivel armchair, back facing Merry)
Realtor : “Sir, this is my acquaintance from Palembang.”
Manager : “Please, take a seat.” (turns chair around 180 degrees dramatically, faces
Merry then studied her from head to toe) “So, you’re Merry?”
Merry : “Yes, that’s me.”
Manager : (lights a cigarette) “Let me see yer files.”
[Merry gives her files to the manager]
Manager : (reads the files) “Okay, no files missing” (gives a piece of paper and points at
it) “This is your contract, just sign here. Bast’ll explain what you’ll need to do next”
Realtor : “’kay! Just don’t forget to give me a bonus!” (wink)
[Realtor shows Merry what she needs to do]

SCENE 8
MUSIC :
Lighting on (lampu disco warna warni) nyorot ke bagian kiri bagian kanan mati
[In the staff room]
Realtor : “I don’t care if you like your co-workers or not but you have to do your job,
we’ve already made a contract. My salary raise depends on you, don’t disappoint me.”
Merry : “Okay, I’ll do my best for my family” (stressed and crazed expression)
Realtor : “This is the staff room and over there’s where we keep the costumes. You
won’t get the luxury of having your own changing room so you’ll change here with the
others.”
Merry : “Got it.”
Co-worker A : “Who’s that with Bast? She looks.. old.”
Co-worker B : “She’s the one the boss talked about yesterday,  the new girl.”
Realtor : “Hi girls! Let me introduce you to your new friend, her name’s Merry.”
Co-workers : “OMG! Hey Mer, c’mere you’ve got to try this, it’s so good!” (one of them
shoves the glass to Merry and forces her to drink)
Merry : (about to throw up, a little bit tipsy) (on her drunk state she began telling her
problems)

Co-workers : “Merry darling let’s drink before meeting the clients today”
Merry : “Let’s chug, babes!”
[Merry pleases her clients, dancing and drunkenly having fun]
Client : “Merry sweetie, from all of the girls here you’re the only one that caught my
eye.” (gives tips)
Merry : “Thank you so much, dear client”
Client : “Just don’t forget about me!”
Merry : “Here, I’ve brought a drink for you” (drinks together)

[Setting in The Boss’ manager’s office, tense atmosphere, dim lighting, no music]
MUSIC :
Lighting on (kuning) nyorot ke depan kanan ada meja adi duduk di sana
Narrator : “Suddenly, the owner of the club where Merry worked went bankrupt. The
workers’ salary was cut, including Merry’s.”
[Manager’s office]
Manager : (calls for Merry) “MERRY !!! MERRY !!!!”
Merry : “I’m here sir! Sorry, I was in the toilet, what do you need me for?”
Manager : “You’re fired”
Merry : “WHAT THE HELIUM?! Sir, I’ve already gotten used to this kind of life
and I’ve got to say that I’m rockin this job. But if my paycheck’s cut then how am I supposed
to live? I mean, hello? LOOK. AT. ME.” (angry tone)
Manager : “It’s the boss’ orders, I can’t do anything about it.”
Merry : (stormed out of the office)
[Merry goes back to her boarding house]
Merry : “What’s with that! This is so messed up!” (drinks while throwing things
aimlessly)
Co-worker A : “What’s with that shank?”
Co-worker B : “Probably wasting herself again, she sounds like she’s already past the gone
now, wouldn’t bother her if I were you.”
Narrator : “Merry became stressed out, the nightlife had rooted itself inside Merry

Lighting on (kuning) nyorot ke jalan bagian kanan, bagian kiri matikan
Merry : (walks around aimlessly without knowing where to go) “What should I do?”
Ma’am Rani : “Miss? Aren’t you afraid walking around alone at this time?”
Merry : (begins laughing hysterically) “What do I need to be afraid of? I’m done, I
quit my job, I have no one, I have nothing. Might as well just die.”
Ma’am Rani : “If you don’t mind me asking, what did you work as previously?”
Merry : “I worked in The Boss, but it’s over now because.. Wait, why am I telling
this to you? You’re just a stranger. Goodbye.” (Walks away, leaving Rani)
Ma’am Rani : “Wait! I have a job offer!”
Merry : (stops midway and looks at Ma’am Rani) “What kind of job do you have in
store?” (cocks an eyebrow)
Ma’am Rani : “Just come with me, you’ll like it.”
[Merry and Ma’am Rani walk away]

Ma’am Rani : “So, this is where you’ll work, if you are willing. I know this might not look
like much. It might seem like any ordinary salon, but actually our service extends to sensuous
massage.”
Merry : “Sensuous massage?”
Ma’am Rani : “That’s right, I am certain you understand what that is. Now, why don’t we
get you acquainted, there are several girls here, let me introduce you, this is Andik, Sumarli,
and Supermen.”

School. We are assigned to meet and interview one of the workers here. Is it okay if we talk

Ma’am Rani : “Come, come inside. It’s okay, this way, follow me.”
Sinluiers #2 : “Oh, ma’am, you’re too kind. Thank you for your hospitality.”
[The drunken client bumps on one of the Sinluiers on his way out]
Sinluiers #3 : “Ouch, that hurts.”
Sinluiers #1 : “Are you okay?”

Ma’am Rani : “Sorry about that. Some of our clients are sometimes rude like that. Anyway,
let me introduce you to Merry, one of our employees. Merry, come over here, these are the
high school kids that will interview you for their school project.”
Merry : (still sobbing quietly) “No, no, no. Just ask the others, leave me alone.”
Ma’am Rani : (pats Merry’s back, trying to comfort Merry) “It’s okay, girl, they’re just
kids. They’re just going to ask a few things. Come on, now. They’re going to give you
money, it’s okay.”
Merry : “Just- just a few questions? Y-you promise?”
Ma’am Rani : “Cross my heart.”
Merry : “O-okay.”
[Shows the Sinluiers trying to interview Merry, although awkward at first, they didn’t give up
and shows friendship and kindness]
