The engine should be capable of turing in ether aitection. This method uses fn old, discarded spark plug. Remove the porcelain and use a tap, 3/8" 24NF, to cut threads through the plug, Insert © Bolt so that will protrude through the plug approximately one: Inch, Remove the rocker arms and push-rods 50 the valves will net be Bent. 5 Rotate the engine clockwise unti the piston contacts the: mark the degree wheel ‘Net, rotate the engine counterclockwise until the piston contacts the stop again. The indicator must be positioned securely above the liter. the stem trom the dal indicator shoul be aligned with the liter as lose as possible. Misalignment will cause an improper reading. Rotate the engine at loast ‘wo revolutions. Make sure the dialindicator Is working trealy and the iter is not sticking oF binding in the bore, and that you have adequate indicator travel. Rotate the engine clockwise unti the lifters on the heel. oF base circle of the cam lobe (minimum it). Zero the dial Indicator ‘Rotate the engine n clockwise direction until a 050" reading is reached. ‘9 Rotate the engine in clockwise direction until a 4.050" reading is reached, View the degree whee! ot this time.
