Palau Government Structure

There are three levels of governance in Palau. The President is chosen directly and
holds office for a period of four years. The Vice President and the President run on
different ballots. The President is advised on traditional laws and traditions by the
Council of Chiefs, which is made up of the highest traditional leaders from each
state.

The Supreme Court, the Court of Common Pleas, and the Land Court make up the
judicial system. The Chief Justice is in charge of the Supreme Court's trial and
appellate divisions. With the National Legislature of Palau's consent, the President
appoints judges to life terms.

Olbiil Era Kelulau, the bicameral National Congress, is composed of:

Senate (13 seats; senators directly elected in single-seat constituencies by majority


vote to serve 4-year terms) (13 seats; members directly elected in single-seat

House of Delegates (16 seats; members directly elected in single-seat


constituencies by simple majority vote to serve 4-year terms)

In the Senate, there were 11 males and 2 women, with the independents holding 13
seats and receiving NA% of the vote. 15.
