Palauan Government

3 branches
The republic of palau has a constitutional government with 3 branches of
government, an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch. This governing
strategy obviously has many similarities to America's government system.

The executive branch

The executive branch is home to the president and the vice president. The
president is elected directly by the people, and serves terms of four years.
The current president is Tommy Remengesau, who previously served 2
terms from 2001 to 2009, and was re-elected after losing office for 4
years.

The vice-president
The vice president is elected on a separate ticket and is unaffiliated with the president. The
current vice president is Raynold Oilouch.

Legislative Branch
The legislative branch consists of 2 sections, the congress and the house. In order to pass a
new law, both chambers need to pass their versions and cooperate. Legislators in Palau serve 4
year terms in both the house and congress.

Judicial Branch
The Judicial branch features a supreme court, with judges who are appointed for life, and 2
lower courts, the land court, and the court of common pleas.
