Dear <<INSERT NAME OF CONTRACTOR/PROVIDER>>

You carried out the following work at <<INSERT ADDRESS>> finishing on <<INSERT
DATE>>:

<<INSERT DETAILS OF WORK DONE e.g. Bathroom Fitting, etc.>>

I am writing to inform you that the above work has proved to be defective as follows:

<<INSERT DETAILS>>

The provisions of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 require that the work should
have been completed with reasonable skill and care using materials of suitable quality.
Furthermore, that the work be completed to the standard to be expected of a reasonably
competent professional. The defects set out above clearly show that you have failed to fulfil
your statutory obligations and therefore you are in breach of contract.

As a gesture of goodwill I am prepared to give you the opportunity to carry out the required
remedial repair works at no extra charge to myself, provided that you undertake to carry out
the repairs within <<INSERT DETAILS>>. Should you fail to carry out the required repair
works within the timescale, or should your repair works prove defective, I reserve my rights
under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 to obtain quotations from other
contractors and I will then claim the repair costs and other associated expenses from you.

I look forward to receiving a written response from you detailing your proposals for repair
within <<INSERT DETAILS e.g. 7>> working days of the date of this letter.

Yours sincerely,
