Justice System

Justice is a system of laws that society generally agrees on and supports. It strives to

be impartial and is the mechanism by which people are held accountable for violating or

keeping to the rules, and other general societal expectations. Justice System: A system of law

that aims at being impartial, designed to maintain social order through conformity with the

law (Oxford Dictionary).

Justice isn’t so much just about punishment as rehabilitation – allowing people who

violate a rule or expectation get back on track in life. This video outlines what justice is

meant to do, how it does it, and why this system makes sense for society as a whole.

The first thing to note, according to the video, is that justice is a system – a series of

laws and other rules that people agree on. In other words, it’s an organized body of

information from which people draw when trying to make decisions about how to act and

decide cases.

There are various steps in the legal process for justice. The first is a crime being

committed by a member of society. The person doing this may or may not be aware that what

they are doing is illegal and thus breaking the law. The second step, according to the video, is

prosecution – deciding if there is enough evidence against an individual or group for them to

stand trial for their crimes.
