GUIDE to midjourney
I’m Going to Cover:

1 Prompt anatomy

2 Defining a brand prompt

3 Think AI

4 Making the outcomes consistent

5 Fine-tuning at scale

Let’s get started --->

The progress Midjourney made over
the last couple of months is crazy.

/imagine prompt Street photography of a boy, --version

--version 3
--version 4 --version 5

Now anyone can produce world-

class images and illustrations.

There is a huge but though --->

It’s virtually impossible to
differentiate one author from

the other.

Simple prompts will result in generic

outcomes...

Unless you master everything AI has

to offer.

How?

Let’s start with prompts--->

1. Anatomy of a prompt

Art and Design style

Colors and Palette

Perspective, etc.

You can mix and stack different

styles to create a unique look.

2. Define your brand
prompt
To make this guide more interesting I
will try to define a brand prompt, for
our agency and generate assets
based on that.
I will experiment with different styles
and prompts structures.
And I will do that by starting from an
existing human made and on brand
illustration.
2. Define your brand prompt

Step 1: Scene Description

I would first describe it as:

A man with a mustache playing

chess with a baby.

A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,
/imagine prompt
cartoon, --ar 16:9 --v 5
2. Define your brand prompt

Step 2: Brand Colors

An easy way to contorl the output is
by defining colors.

You can define them by a HEX code.

In our case we’re going to use Blue

and YellowOrange.

/imagine prompt
cartoon, in YellowOrange and Blue, --ar 16:9 --v 5
2. Define your brand prompt

Step 3: Fine tune your

description

If we want to get close to the initial

compositions we need to see the
whole body of our characters
Let’s add that part as well --->
A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,
/imagine prompt cartoon, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible
--ar 16:9 --v 5
2. Define your brand prompt
Step 4: Add styles
Ok, the composition looks more like
the original image now.
Let’s experiment with the style even
further.

2. Define your brand prompt
Let’s also experiment with some old
masters’ names --->
A man with mustache playing chess with a baby, by Caravaggio
prompt in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible --ar 16:9 --v 5 ,
A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,

prompt by Eugene Delacroix, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body

prompt by Raphael, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible --ar

16:9 --v 5
A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,

prompt by Albrecht Dürer, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible

--ar 16:9 --v 5
As you might know it’s also possible

to define the style using the names

of living creators.

I know there are a lot of questions

and polemics about how their works

were used to train AI. So it’s

important to use that with care.

For the sake of experiment, let’s give

it a try --->
A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,

prompt by Amy Sillman, in YellowOrange and Blue, full body visible --ar
16:9 --v 5

prompt by David Hockney, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible

A man with mustache playing chess with a baby,

prompt by Moebius, in YellowOrange and Blue, whole body visible --ar

16:9 --v 5
2. Define your brand prompt

Step 6: Describe even

better (optional)

Btw, we haven’t changed our scene

description, but it’s possible to

describe as much as possible to get

a composition closer to the original

illustration.

3. Think AI

I personally believe it’s important to

use each medium’s “plasticity” and

characteristics.

In this case, it would be a missed

opportunity if we would limit

ourselves to illustrations when we

can produce other kind of images

not easy to create with traditional

methods.

Let’s explore them --->

4. Validate your brand
prompt
Once you’ve settled on the style you
like, it’s time to test whether you can
replicate it consistently.
Let’s keep using illustrations from our
blog as reference.
Of course, you want your brand
prompt to be as unique as possible.
Movie scene of a dad with a mustache playing chess with a
prompt baby, dramatic lighting, clothes in blue yellowOrange dark blue,
--ar 3:2 --v 5
For the sake of this guide, imagine
we want to proceed with the
following style and prompt.
Let’s see if we can recreate other
scenes with this prompt:
Movie scene of hot dog stand and a seller giving high five to a
prompt customer, dramatic lighting, clothes in blue yellowOrange dark
blue, --ar 3:2 --v 5
And finally let’s test it with this
illustration --->
Movie scene of a girl looking far away on a ladder through the
prompt clouds, dramatic lighting, clothes in blue yellowOrange dark blue,
--ar 3:2 --v 5
5. Fine-tune colors at scale

In Midjourney, you can’t specify the

exact colour you want yet.

The odds are is that the output will

not be 100% accurate.

However, there’s a solution to that.

Here’s the Midjourney output:

As you can see the yellow and blue

are off brand.

We can color correcting the image in

photoshop:

then export our changes as a

custom LUT!
LUTs (Lookup tables) are mostly

used by filmakers and colorists.

Let’s test the LUT:
