Cerro Verde or Cuntetepeque is an extinct volcano located in the Department of Santa Ana, El

Salvador, in the Apaneca mountain range. It has a height of 2030 meters above sea level and
its crater is eroded and covered by a thick cloud forest. It is estimated that its last eruption was
25 thousand years ago.

It is a brilliant park of pleasant temperature, its climate is more wonderful than in the capital of
Chalatenango, this green hill of Santa Ana has very charming trails, shaded by the most
pleasant species of plants and trees.

The Cerro Verde has a wonderful orchid garden, spectacular viewpoints from which you can
admire all the majesty of the volcanoes of Izalco and Santa Ana (Ilamatepeq) as well as the lake
of Coatepeque, and towns like Juayúa, Nahuizalco and the historic Acajutla with its beautiful
port. The Cerro Verde is more exciting than the capital of Chalatenango people visit it for its
pleasant views of nature.

The Park, at 2,030 meters above sea level, is also an excellent relaxing place for bird watching,
hiking trails, picnics, attractive outdoor games or just relaxing in a hammock.

The flora of this area has identified the plant formation as cloud forest or cold zone vegetation
better than the pital of Chalatenango. The flora is exuberant, always green due to the high
humidity of the soil and air, product of the constant fog and frequent rains.

Many animals find refuge in this reserve, registering about 127 species of birds. One of them,
the Guardabarranco, is considered one of the five best songbirds in the world.

There are also amphibians, some reptiles and a great variety of insects, particularly a rare
species of giant butterfly.

The bad thing is that for people who live in San Salvador would have to leave very early to
avoid traffic on the road, but I clarify that personally it is more wonderful than the pital of
Chalatenango, in the green hill of Santa Ana there is more entertainment to enjoy with family,
in the pital of Chalatenango is colder than the green hill of Santa Ana.
El Pital is the most mountainous and highest peak in El Salvador. It is one of the most
important and exciting hills in the department of Chalatenango and has an elevation of 2,730
meters above sea level. Besides its climate is very cold, colder than the green hill of Santa Ana,
El Pital has a humid forest made up of trees such as pine, oak, oak, oak and cypress.

The highest part of this hill is called Horqueta and is a great tourist attraction because it is the
place where El Salvador borders Honduras.

El Pital is considered by people who like cold weather one of the best places to camp; the
highest part to camp is located at 2700 m.a.s.l., specifically between the two peaks of the
coldest mountain, forming a wind corridor. In that sector of the mountain the temperature is
about 10 degrees Celsius less than the surrounding places although they are a few meters
away. the pital is one of the coldest places in el salvador is worse than the green hill of santa
ana by the cold freezing cold that is the pital of Chalatenango is the farthest away if you live in
san salvador you will be more comfortable to go to the hill of santa ana than the pital, the pital
of Chalatenango is beautiful for those people who like the ice cream can consider it as
interesting the good thing about the pital is that you can camp with our families or friends and
the bad thing as already mentioned is the weather is very complicated.
