Jiquilisco Bay

Jiquilisco Bay has world-class natural and scenic beauty. Jiquilisco was a
pre-Hispanic town, whose Nahuat place name means “place of the indigo
growers.”

With an approximate area of 55 km, Jiquilisco Bay has a total of 27 islands,

among which we can count: Isla Méndez, Corral de Mulas, Madre Sal, la
Pirraya, El Espíritu Santo, etc. 54 types of birds have been identified here, at
different times, some can be seen throughout the year. Due to the variety of
birds and because they are still preserved in good condition, different
institutions are trying to include it within the “Ramsar Sites” recognized
worldwide.

Some of the birds that we can find are: herons, roseate spoonbills, white and
brown pelicans, cormorants, pichiches, egrets (four species), hawks (three
species), falcons (3 species), among others. Among the reptiles we have:
masacuatas, boas, iguanas, turtles, crocodiles, etc. Among the fish we have:
marqueta, bass, swordfish, sailfish, marlin (which during its migration passes
through our waters and a fishing tournament is held, with participants from
Canada, Mexico, USA, and Central America), different mollusks (donkey
helmet, curil, mussel), etc. This area has four types of mangroves, on which
bromeliads grow. They are also producers of detritus and at the same time
participate in the formation of soil and intervene in multiple food chains
within the same ecosystem. Between the mainland and the mangroves we
have a transitional forest and among the trees in this we have the huiscoyol.
Perquín, Morazán

The small city of Perquín is located in the north of the department of

Morazán, 205 km from San Salvador and was widely known outside our
borders for being a region controlled by opposition forces during the armed
conflict that ended in 1992. Many of the inhabitants of Perquín and its
surrounding regions chose to emigrate due to the war situation that was
being experienced at that time, either to cities such as San Miguel or San
Salvador, or to the United States and even Europe. Some others chose to
join the opposition forces and took refuge in the mountains and hills. Then,
with the end of the armed conflict, some of the residents returned to their old
homes and have made the once abandoned cities grow again.

It was thanks to the few inhabitants that this region preserved its natural
beauty and ecological wealth, (since as we already know that where there
are human beings there is always destruction and environmental impact,
which is often a product of the need for survival.) Little by little Since 1992,
Perquín has been visited by both national and foreign tourists. Sites such as
the well-known Sapo River and its protected area, the Negro River, hills
such as El Gigante and El Pericón offer tourists their natural and historical
wealth. In Perquín there are two mountain hotels that we recommend for
their standards of quality and cleanliness: Hotel Perkín Lenca and El Ocotal,
which also have a restaurant in their facilities. There are other options to
stay but they are more basic and obviously
Laguna de Alegría: The Emerald of Usulután

Nature and the past have left a gift in the mountains. At least this is what the
residents of Alegría, Usulután, say when welcoming tourists who have
decided to explore its beautiful attractions.

A cool city This city is located on the slopes of the Tecapa Volcano, at a
height of 1,300 meters above sea level. Which makes it one of the coolest
cities in the country. This has allowed the cultivation of coffee and other
plants that do not grow in many parts of El Salvador.

The city has great tourist attractions, among which its beautiful volcanic
lagoon stands out. In the crater of a volcano La Laguna de Alegría is located
in the Tecapa crater, in the Tecapa-Chinameca mountain range, less than
two kilometers from the city. The lagoon has easy access through a
cobblestone street that runs through coffee plantations.

Legend has it that at night a mermaid appears who enchants all the young
virgins who come to take a bath in the waters. Another of the legends that
the place has is that of the “Enchanted Palm Tree”, a small tree that is found
on the walls of the crater and that has the quality of moving at will.
