POP MUSIC
Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the
mid-1950s in the United States and England. The terms popular music and pop
music are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music
that is popular and encompasses many different styles. During the 1950s and
1960s, pop music included rock and roll and the youth-oriented styles it
influenced. Rock and pop music remained roughly synonymous until the late
1960s, after which pop became associated with music that was more
Although most of the music that appears on the charts is considered pop
music, it is a distinct genre from chart music. Identifying factors usually include
repeated choruses and hooks, short to medium songs written in a basic format
easily. Much pop music also borrows elements from other styles such as rock,

they are from movie soundtracks, but even then this is extremely rare. That

Pop music first became popular in the United States in 1920. At that time, the first recording industry emerged
which was the invention of Thomas Edison. This music is used as an accompaniment to the tango dance, which
has a minor scale and a melancholic tone. The term pop music itself was coined for the first time by an artist
from England, namely Lawrence Alloway. Pop music genres are also influenced by Africa to England. At that
time, music was recorded from various genres, namely jazz, classical music, blues music to traditional music.
After that, the recording and music industries became more and more interested, and pop music also
developed. Since 1954, the term pop music has become something that many young people enjoy. The circles
that popularized pop music were young black people. Popular pop music did not have a significant historical
development in terms of the development of the grammar of the music. In general, the composition of pop

THE VOCAL STYLE OF FUNK MUSIC
The funk music style developed from the 1960s to the early 1970s and was very popular in the 90s. 21 The rhythm of this music is
synonymous with syncopation. As a word originating in African-American oral tradition, funk defies literal definition, for usage that varies
with circumstances. As a slang term, funky is used to describe someone's unpredictable style, or attitude. Funk music refers to an
aggressive style of urban dance music that is supported by syncopated bass guitar patterns and loud drum beats accented by a
number of instruments involved to build a groove. 22 In some literature and historical records of music, funk is synonymous with soul. In
its development, funk music became more hip music, while soul music was more conservative with strong gospel influences. Funk was
actually also born with the influence of blues, jazz, gospel and soul. In the 1970s, funk gave influence to several genres that were
developing at that time, such as rock, fusion, and then gave space for the birth of progressive rock, acid jazz, or jazz-funk and disco.
James Brown dared to give a touch of funk, when soul music developed. He is known as the godfather of soul. Brown in the 1960s,
provided a different feature in the soul songs he sang. There were dynamics, as well as firm beats to the songs which at that time were
new. The Rock n'Roll Hall of Fame notes, there is one name that is mentioned as the father of funk, namely Little Richards. Even though

HISTORY THE ORIGIN OF HIP HOP MUSIC
In the 1970s, local residents in New York began to frequently hold block parties, namely parties that were carried out by
closing residential streets. Initially, this party was held only to celebrate simple things, as a means of gathering. Apart from
food and drinks, music also enlivened the party. This is where musical creativity emerges by using DJ tools with various
techniques such as scratching, fade, beat drop, and remixes. To produce rich percussive tones and sounds, hip hop
musicians at that time used two turntables and a DJ tool. By incorporating pieces from other music and interjecting
rapping and singing, hip hop music slowly took on a distinct identity of its own. This music is better known as an
accompaniment at block parties until in 1979, The Sugarhill Gang released their song entitled "Rapper's Delight" which is
known more widely. The name "hip hop" is also taken from the rap lyrics that start the song. Since then, the musical style of
hip hop has continued to develop into many subgenres, such as DJ, Rap, Breakdance and Graffiti.
