Past Simple

We use the PAST SIMPLE to talk about things that happened in the past.

 Specific time in the past


 Finished events in the past.

We use the form of the verb TO BE to express the following:

1. Feelings for example happiness


2. Emotions for example sad
3. States for example hot
4. Professions for example teacher
5. Careers for example doctor

I, he, she, it, these pronouns use WAS in affirmative or interrogative and WASN’T in negative.

You, we, they, these pronouns use WERE in affirmative or interrogative and WEREN’T in negative.

1. Daniela was happy yesterday.


2. Mike and Lenin were soccer players when they were kids.
3. My mother wasn’t at work last Monday.

Other Verbs

Most of the time we have verbs that are called REGULARS (they end in –ed in the past form)

The other verbs are called IRREGULARS (they change in the past form)
