5.) What chapter contains the Master and deck department of STCW Code of
2 Parts A – B?
Chapter II of Part A of the STCW Code contains the requirements for the Master
and deck department. This chapter provides the mandatory minimum standards for training,
certification, and watchkeeping for officers in charge of a navigational watch, as well as ratings
forming part of a navigational watch on seagoing ships. The chapter also includes requirements
for the training and certification of Masters and Chief Mates on ships of 500 gross tonnage or
more, and for the training and certification of Officers in charge of a navigational watch on
ships of less than 500 gross tonnage.
6.) What chapter contains the Engine department of STCW Code of 2 Parts A
– B?
Chapter III of Part A of the STCW Code contains the requirements for the Engine
department. This chapter provides the mandatory minimum standards for training,
certification, and watchkeeping for officers in charge of an engineering watch, as well as ratings
forming part of an engineering watch on seagoing ships. The chapter also includes requirements
for the training and certification of Chief Engineers and Second Engineers on ships of 3,000
kilowatts propulsion power or more, and for the training and certification of Officers in charge
of an engineering watch on ships of less than 750 kilowatts propulsion power.
7.) What chapter contains the Special training requirements for personnel on
certain types of ships of STCW Code of 2 Parts A – B?
Chapter V of Part A of the STCW Code contains the special training requirements
for personnel on certain types of ships. This chapter provides additional mandatory minimum
standards for training and certification for seafarers serving on specialized types of ships, such
as:
Tankers
Passenger ships
Ro-Ro passenger ships
High-speed craft
Offshore supply vessels
Tugs
Dredgers
Fishing vessels
Ships operating in polar waters
The additional requirements in Chapter V are in addition to the general requirements in
Chapters II and III of the STCW Code, and are designed to address the unique risks and
challenges associated with operating these specialized types of ships.
