football is developing so rapidly in Europe and the countries of the Blue Continent also dominate

teams in Europe's top leagues such as in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France. These rich clubs

context of international law. For example: England and Scotland, (part of Great Britain) or Faroe

Islands, (part of Denmark). However, in this context state government functions related to sport tend
to be carried out at the regional level bordering the UEFA membership entity. Some UEFA members

are continental countries, (such as Turkey and Russia). Several countries in Asia also claim to be

European football associations, notably Israel and Kazakhstan, which have become members of the

Asian Football Confederation. In addition some UEFA member associations allow teams from outside

the main area of their association to take part in their own "domestic" competitions. Monaco, for

example, takes part in the French League (though a separate sovereign entity); Clubs Cardiff City and

Swansea City participate in the Premier League; Berwick Rangers, located in England, play in the

Scottish Professional Football League and Derry City, located in Northern Ireland, play in the Irish

League based in the Republic of Ireland
