INTRODUCTION
Background of Study
The Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) strand aims to prepare
students with skills and abilities when it comes to electrical industry. This strand
consists of laboratory activities to show the effectiveness of developing the
Electrical Installation and Maintenance students' skills essential to the field of
electrical. Every student begins with the basic fundamentals of electricity and
wiring of simple circuits, then will proceed to the advanced phases which are the
residential interior wiring, the alternating current power, and wiring of more
complex circuits and equipment. For the National Electrical Code, emphasis when
it comes to working on wirings should be applied. (Honolulu, 2011) In the study
of Amadike (2006), Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) show various
practical exercises, maintenance of electrical system and circuits.
This study aims the background of what technical skill that we need in
qualification in Electrical Installation and Maintenance to become effective and
useful in doing such works or in the field. The ultimate goal of vocational
technical education training is for the acquisition of knowledge, attitude and
practical skills for sustainable development. The training of vocational technical
education students is based on the production of goods and services that are not
only relevant to themselves but to the society. Stated that the acquisition of life-
long practical skills calls for effective and efficient teaching strategies, appropriate
evaluation methods and utilization of standard teaching materials, tools, machines,
and equipment to ensure the production of desired graduates with practical skills.
Other requirements include training manuals and availability of qualified teachers
with experiences. The students who undergo training in Electrical Installation
understanding in diverse skills in the trades as expected to posses’ skills for
design, development, production, excellence in installation of electrical
management and utilization of trending machines and equipment, maintain nerve
electrical/electronic devices and circuits. Therefore, this study will determine the
qualification and competencies of student in technical skills in Electrical
Installation and Maintenance.
Objectives
This study aimed to determine the correlation between the technical skills
and laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.
1. Determine the level of technical skills of Grade in terms of:
1.1. Using and maintaining hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers,
pliers and drills
1.2. Installing electrical conduits, cables, tubing
1.3. Knowledge of safety standards and procedures
2. Determine the Level of Laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.
3. Reveal the significant relationship between the technical skills and
laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.
This study focused on determining the Technical Skills of G-12 Students in the
Qualification of Electrical Installation and Maintenance. The following will be
benefitted:
Future Researchers. This study will be their guide, they can also use this as a
source for their future research.
