INTRODUCTION

The Electrical Installation and Maintenance is part of the Technical-

Vocational track and it was an industrial art. The students are specialized with
technical skills, analyzing signs, electrical symbols and data, interpretation of
technical drawings and plans, maintaining of electric hydraulic tools, installation
of electric metallic tubing, wire ways and cable trays; installing telephone
terminal cabinet, cable Bridge. And also, the selection of wiring devices used for
floor and ground fault current interrupter which is based from the Philippine
Electrical Code standards. Earning is the process of acquisition of knowledge
(practical and theoretical) which is one of the goals of education. According to
Federal Republic education of Nigeria (2013), one of the goals of education is the
acquisition of appropriate skills and development of mental, physical, social
abilities, competencies and as well the preparation for the development of his
society.

Background of Study
The Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) strand aims to prepare
students with skills and abilities when it comes to electrical industry. This strand
consists of laboratory activities to show the effectiveness of developing the
Electrical Installation and Maintenance students' skills essential to the field of
electrical. Every student begins with the basic fundamentals of electricity and
wiring of simple circuits, then will proceed to the advanced phases which are the
residential interior wiring, the alternating current power, and wiring of more
complex circuits and equipment. For the National Electrical Code, emphasis when
it comes to working on wirings should be applied. (Honolulu, 2011) In the study
of Amadike (2006), Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) show various
practical exercises, maintenance of electrical system and circuits.
This study aims the background of what technical skill that we need in
qualification in Electrical Installation and Maintenance to become effective and
useful in doing such works or in the field. The ultimate goal of vocational
technical education training is for the acquisition of knowledge, attitude and
practical skills for sustainable development. The training of vocational technical
education students is based on the production of goods and services that are not
only relevant to themselves but to the society. Stated that the acquisition of life-
long practical skills calls for effective and efficient teaching strategies, appropriate
evaluation methods and utilization of standard teaching materials, tools, machines,
and equipment to ensure the production of desired graduates with practical skills.
Other requirements include training manuals and availability of qualified teachers
with experiences. The students who undergo training in Electrical Installation
understanding in diverse skills in the trades as expected to posses’ skills for
design, development, production, excellence in installation of electrical
management and utilization of trending machines and equipment, maintain nerve
electrical/electronic devices and circuits. Therefore, this study will determine the
qualification and competencies of student in technical skills in Electrical
Installation and Maintenance.

Objectives
This study aimed to determine the correlation between the technical skills
and laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.
1. Determine the level of technical skills of Grade in terms of:
1.1. Using and maintaining hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers,
pliers and drills
1.2. Installing electrical conduits, cables, tubing
1.3. Knowledge of safety standards and procedures
2. Determine the Level of Laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.
3. Reveal the significant relationship between the technical skills and
laboratory performance of Grade 12 students.

Significance of the Study

This study focused on determining the Technical Skills of G-12 Students in the
Qualification of Electrical Installation and Maintenance. The following will be
benefitted:

E. I. M Students. This study helps to know the technical skills of grade 12

students in the laboratory and to measure if they qualify for the demands of
electrical installation and maintenance. Qualification consists of competencies that
a person must achieve to enable him/her to install and maintain electrical wiring,
lighting and related equipment and systems where the voltage does not exceed
600 volts in residential houses/buildings.
E. I. M Instructors. This study can use to guide the instructors what they
improve on their teaching style to students to learn the technical skills that need in
E. I. M.
Department of Education. This study will show what the school still needs to
improve so that the grade 12 students in the technical skill to pass the qualification
of electrical installation and maintenance.
Community. This study shows to the community the adjustments that was done
of instructors to improve the technical skills that qualify to Electrical Installation
and Maintenance.
Researchers. This study helps the researchers to find the deficiency in technical
skills that hinders the qualification of students in Electrical Installation
Management.

Future Researchers. This study will be their guide, they can also use this as a
source for their future research.

Scope and Limitations

The purpose of this study is to determine the qualification of Electrical Installation

and Maintenance among G-12 E. I. M students, specifically in technical skills,
which include Installing and maintaining electrical systems, equipment and
devices, Using and maintaining hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers
and drills, Repairing wiring systems, Installing electrical conduits, cables, tubing,
Testing equipment, instruments and systems, Knowledge of Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLC), Knowledge of National Electric Code and local electric codes,
Knowledge of safety standards and procedures, Commercial experience,
construction experience or industrial experience quality assurance skills. The
researchers are giving an assessment to the students which is a valid tool to
measure the skills and performance in technical skills among G-12 E. I. M
students. This study will be conducted during November 2022 to June 2023
covering the 2nd Semester of the School Year 2022-2023.

Definition of Terms

Electrical Installation and Maintenance- To put it simply, electrical installation

and maintenance is the process of installing and maintaining electrical systems
and equipment. It may include tasks such as installing wiring, repairing or
replacing damaged equipment, and inspecting electrical systems for safety.
Laboratory Performance- are measures of the performance of the laboratory and
its activities, such as projects, processes, products, or services. KPIs in
laboratories are also used to track the performance of the inventory, devices,
environment, data, and results.

Technical Skills- re the specialized knowledge and expertise required to perform

specific tasks and use specific tools and programs in real world situations. Diverse
technical skills are required in just about every field and industry, from IT and
business administration to health care and education.

Qualification- a quality or accomplishment that makes someone suitable for a

particular job or activity.
