2016 TECHNOLYMPICS Division Level

Livelihood Education- Elementary

A Narrative

A morning full of surprises and learning was experienced by the contest

facilitators and the district winners/ representative and their trainers at the venue
for this year’s division skills competition at Ramon Avancena High School at San
Miguel, Manila last November 24, 2016. School service vehicles, private and
public transport brought the participants to this school and they accommodated
the elementary and secondary level. The school ground was occupied by some
vehicles and they served as dividers for the different contest for Home Economics
and Livelihood Education categories.

Parade of participants at school vicinity started as soon as everyone were

settled and then proceed to the deck where the opening program was held. The
program went smoothly and Dr. Dante B. Bermas, Education Program Supervisor
gave his inspirational message in behalf of Dr. Wilfredo E. Cabral, Schools Division
Superintendent who was not able to attend. Dr. Bermas gave emphasis to this
year’s theme, which is “A Showcase of Marketable Products and Performances”
and reminded the contestants and trainers that they are not there just to
compete, but also to use the event as a venue to develop oneself and to be a
better person that they can be. The participants were presented and the
announcement of venue for each category for high school and elementary
followed.

Then, everyone proceed to their designated areas. The Grade School

participants especially the L.E. were assigned at an area at the school ground and
at a portion at the deck. The assigned contest facilitators for Livelihood Education
categories presented the contest piece and the analytic performance scoring
rubrics to the judges assigned from Secondary. Most of the judges were head
teachers and master teachers in Technology and Livelihood Education. Some
reminders were briefly discussed by the judges to the pupil-contestants and they
let the trainers to help their contestants preparing their tools and materials.

The skills competition started almost simultaneously by the mid-morning

but ended independently because of different time allotment for each contest
category. One hour for both Dish Gardening and Simple House Wiring and three
hours for Shoe Rack Making were consumed by the contestants. The judges
observed keenly the process how the pupils made their product and also test
their communication skills. They meticulously examined and compared the
finished products and gave their assessment according to the scoring rubrics. The
results were submitted to the contest facilitators and the contest facilitators
announced the top three contestants and they were advised to return in the
afternoon of the following day for the awarding.

Some of the awardees -- contestants and trainers came back with their
school principals at Avancena High School for the 2016 Technolympics’ closing
program and awarding ceremony. Cheers and yells of the winning schools were
heard when they received their medals and certificates. Trophies were awarded
to the top performing schools in the said skills competition where -- marketable
products and performances were showcased.
