Study Source B and C.

How useful are these sources to a historian studying the relationship between the
Soviet Union and the Allies at the end of the Second World War? Explain your answer using these
sources and your contextual knowledge

Source b shows us the decisions made on how the land was going to be split, it is territory located in
eastern Europe. This source shows us a friendly relationship between the Allys and the USSR as they
have agreed on how the territories would be split. A key point to this source would be the fact that this
was created before the war had even ended, which could have implications as it is believed that they
couldn’t agree on how Germany would be split up which caused arguments. It also shows us how the
USSR got most of Eastern Europe which would be converted to communism in the future.

Source B shows us how the US, UK and the USSR are discussing how the pieces on the board were going
to be split up. Most of the pieces were located near eastern Europe which they had already decided how
to split years ago. It shows us how there were no pieces in Germany this was caused by the fact that
they couldn’t decide on how to split Germany, especially Berlin. This was due to the fact that Stalin had
wanted to keep Germany weak, while the UK and USA had wanted to rebuild Germany.

In conclusion, the sources show us how they had planned to split up eastern Europe and how they had
come to a conclusion. The sources do not really help much to study the relationship between them as it
only tells us certain details such as how they were going to split up territory and that they couldn’t agree
on how to split it up.9
