Carnival in Uruguay is actually longer than the world _______ one in Brazil and

culturally important than in Uruguay, where neighborhoods all over the country

Every year in July, people in Ubon Ratchathani Thailand
celebrate the Candle Festival. Tourists from all over the
country come to Ubon to look at huge wax candles that are
paraded through the streets. There is music, dancers, a
huge market and even a
competition for artists to design the best candle.

The biggest celebation for Uruguayan gauchos, Fiesta
de la Patria Gaucha, is a great meeting point for coutry
and city Uruguayans, their history and traditions. It started in Tacuarembo in 1987 and
since then, every year in the first week of March, more tan 30000 people meet in the
beautiful Lago de las Lavanderas. Over 5 days, you
can enjoy singing and dancing, taste traditional
cooking and drink mate.

Festivals are for fun, but many of them have a
serious side, too. They raise money for charity. The
big British Festival, Glastonbury music festival, helps
Greenpeace, Oxfam and WaterAid. During this music
festival, Oxfam provides volunteers to help. Greenpeace provides showers and organic
café. WaterAid looks after the showers, the toilets and provides clean water.
