Home of the Carnival
There are carnivals in many places all
over the world. Probably the most famous
carnival is in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It’s
in February or March every year.
Many people travel to Rio to watch the
carnival and about five million people
celebrate in the city. People decorate the
streets and wear special costumes.
Everything is bright and colourful.
Samba music is very popular at the
carnival in Rio. There are many different
group decorates a float with beautiful
colours. They play big samba drums and
dance through the streets.
It’s one big party for the city. The party
doesn’t stop at night! Many people dance
all day and all night – they don’t sleep
at all. And the party isn’t one day – it’s
four days!
In some parts of Rio, people’s pets wear
costumes too. Dogs wear colourful hats
and jackets, like their owners.
